I submitted my feed to itunes a week ago and I'm still not in their directory.
How long does it take? It seems like eveyone else is getting into the itunes directory but me.
I compared my feed to someone elses who has been accepted into the itunes directory and mine had less errors then their feed.
First, welcome to podcasting fellow Phoenician. I'm doing a show out of Queen Creek, nice to see someone local. Second, I'm not on itunes either and I posted on there a week ago too so I understand how you are feeling. What's the address for your show?

What up Pedro, I'll definitely check out your show and give a vote. I'm pretty new to Podcasting and don't understand feeds exactly. I feel like my feed is the reason why I'm not on itunes yet.
Do you know how to edit feeds or is that even possible?
You can check out my show at http://hitterandfriends.libsyn.com
With libsyn, they offer a way to send in an itunes friendly feed so you don't need to do anything other than submit on the right page of libsyn.

The libsyn feed is not compliant with itunes specs. It's only partially compliant.

Living in Japan and not owning a US credit card, I can't even submit my frikkin' podcast to Apple's directory. I had a friend in the US do it for me the day 4.9 was released and I haven't been added yet either.
And the ipodder directory doesn't have a category for podcasts in Asia so I'm not listed there either. Seems like Apple's chucking everyone into the "Audioblog" category, and I don't want to end up there.

Our Podcast was lucky enough to be listed when iTunes went live, albeit with ni image and in only two categories. On that day I went through our XML code and added all the itunes stuff.
It was not until last night, Wednesday, had all the items, including out picture, updated and are complete. So it took a week. Nothing was really updated the MOMENT that I fixed it in the feed file. The minimum amount of time was like 1 day, so it takes awhile!
Two great things to help you, that helped me and have been discusses elsewhere...
The Feed Checker By Pat

and
http://feedvalidator.org/
Both helped me tremendously!

I'm getting to that stage where I'm really starting to care less whether I ever get on itunes or not. Now that they are pulling shows off of itunes, regardless of how popular the show is, the mystique is starting to wear off. I realize it's their right to do that, but what's the sense of going through the trouble only the get your show removed a week later.

I accidently listed this note on a wrong thread. Well here it is.
My PodCast was listed on June 28th in iTunes. But iTunes never updated and eventually disappeared from the Music Store.
Does anyone have facts to what is going on at Apple and whats the reason for Apple removing feeds from the Music Store. Is it a random thing or will they eventually get to all of us.
Is this just a rumor or is there something to this.

I thought I was v cool when Apple added podcasting but now I’m not sure it will be any more than publicity. They seem to take so long to add the “indie podcasts but shows from Disney and NY FM DJs get a lot of attention (our show has been in queue for over a week) and now I’m hear noise that they are pulling podcasts (what is that all about?). I’m going to stick with podcastalley and ipodder as my main source.

I too was extremely bummed when I got Itunes installed. It was like that time when they added a bunch of cool stuff to the playground, and all the big kids came in a ruined it. All anyone can do is continue to focus on doing the best show they, beg for people to spread the word, and hope the cream will rise ot the top.
Well now that I'm shacking up with Minnie Mouse, ABC is gonna take my show to the highest of podcasting heights. Of course I'm still not on itunes but I can just see them making my Times Square billboard now. I'm also slated for Dancing with the podcaster!!

Apple's doing what's right for them. They know what the masses want, and it seems they think the masses want mass media. If that's true then the iTunes podcasting directory will stay the way it is with the majority of indy podcasts in the "Audio Blogs" bargain bin.
What I think will happen is little by little they will find the best of the best indy casts and nudge them up a little. Stuff like Digital Flotsam and Area 51 will get their attention. I suspect the Area 51 team will shape themselves into something more appealing to Apple. They know the biz.
Adam Curry probably isn't 100% happy with the way things are and will serve as a good diplomat for indy podcasters. Despite being famous, influential and not universally loved, he's a decent guy who seems to believe in karma. Although of course he's not going call up Jobbs and throw a **** fit on our behalf.
On the really bright side, it's a good thing Adam's Podfinder show is in the top 10. If you want to promote your show to iTunes users, that's definitely the place to do it. And if you are mentioned, it would be REALLY NICE AND NEIGHBORLY of you to promote other indy casts in your next show.
But the more pressing issue is....will Dancing With The Podcaster be on in Japan?

The original Post in this thread asked how long does it take to get listed with iTunes. The answer (I guess) is nobody really knows.
What I do know is that I ran a check on my xml file for my Podcast show using this link:
http://www.nobodylikesonions.com/feedcheck/
I found lots of errors in my xml including iTunes tag errors. This link has helped me to understand RSS and iTunes much better. My xml now is correct according to the above website.
The reason Im bringing this up is that I suspect (and I could be wrong) that after my podcast was listed as one of the first ones on iTunes but then didn't update and finally went away could have something to do with that my XML was not within the iTunes Specs.
Thats not to say that people who have posted podcasts to iTunes after the initial start shouldnt be listed but I do wonder if there is a connection.
---eager to find out more and understand the basics in this.

The libsyn feed is not compliant with itunes specs. It's only partially compliant.
What do we LibSyn people need to do to make our feed files completely compliant?
i haven't noticed a lot of discussion of this over at the LibSyn forum. (Think I'll go start a thread right now...)
