View Full Version : Seriously, has anyone gotten an image to show up in iTunes?

I would prefer to have the "album" art as well as the small logo that a person gets when they search. Like this:

When I followed the instructions to insert images into iTunes, all I could get was one of these:

I'm super frustrated by this!

I spent more time than I'd like to recall on my feed this past holiday weekend and after MANY iterations, it seems to work in iTunes.

I knew I was getting close when the generic iTunes image was replaced by a broken link image.

Finally I double, triple, quadruple checked the itunes:link tag against other people's feeds that were obviously working and then just for good luck decided to add the itunes:link tag within all my item tags.
Also, everytime I updated my feed, I changed the pub and build dates so that any reader would see it as new.

One great site that REALLY helped me is:
http://www.nobodylikesonions.com/feedcheck/
It will tell you what will work for regular feed readers as well as iTunes.

Too bad I did that all at once, because it worked and I don't know specifically what make it work.

Here's my feed: http://www.animationpodcast.com/podcast.xml

Good luck,
Clay

Took a little doing, but I got both working - show art, and specific show art:

And when a podcast plays:

How did I do it?

Podcast "art" is in the itunes specific tags. References a 350x350 file on my server.

MP3 Album art is an embedded graphic I stick right into the MP3 file, using iTunes. Maybe other programs do it, I dunno... but in iTunes, I do a get info on my mp3 file (after I'm done optimizing it, IDtagging it), and go to the option tab, and put the image in place.

Note, as soon as you try to view details on the mp3 again in Windows Explorer (using the advanced tag), it will wipe out the embedded image.

I read that Images in podcasts only work on AAC/mp4 files.

What tags did it take to get the art for your show, not for the specific episodes? Like I said, I want the purple man to disapear...

Images in podcasts only work on AAC/mp4 files.

Album art works with mp3s and many, many software players. Changing artwork with chaptering only works with AAC and iTunes/iPod. There's a big difference.

That is what I read too. Some people are putting out two feeds(mp3 & AAC/mp4) to work with Chapters.

If people follow the Apple specs they shouldn't have any problem putting in a generic artwork for their podcast independent of its audio format.

My imge dislays for solipsisticNATION, the electronica show I do. Tha's fine and dandy but it still irks me that iTunes features that show, which I don't think I submitted, butiTunes doesn't feature small WORLD, which I definitely submitted.

Speaking of which, I don't know if it will help, but I would greatly appreciate it if any of you would go to the podcast section on iTunes and click the "Publish a Podcast" button and submit small WORLD. Here's the feed link

http://feeds.feedburner.com/smallworld

Thanks in advance!

ticks me off too. I thought I did everything right, and this should be showing up:

But NOTHING! Will try some of your suggestions out today.

I just submitted your feed into iTunes and some others. Maybe if we all start a thread for people that HAVE NOT been added and everyone at PCA submits those same podcasts, it will trigger them to add them. Might be some sort of priority based on number of requests?

Worth a shot...

Anyway, I submitted yours a couple others again today...

I know Apple has a lot of podcasts to sort out so I'm patient. Sort of.

The only reason I asked people to publish my feed on iTunes is that Charley from Israelisms asked the same thing and within a day or two his podcast was listed. I don't know if it had anything to do with it but it's worth a try.

Is your show listed? If not, let me know and I'll gladly publish your feed on iTunes.

animationpodcast,

How long did it take Apple to get your image up once you made the final change that got it right?

Thanks!

It was pretty quick - less than ten minutes at the most.

True, but it's too small in the details page...you need a 300x300 version.

Speaking of which, I don't know if it will help, but I would greatly appreciate it if any of you would go to the podcast section on iTunes and click the "Publish a Podcast" button and submit small WORLD.
I just tried but it said it was already submitted.

Also, after MUCH experimentation I can confirm that the following will work for adding an image in the iTunes directory (this is straight out of Apple's PDF):

<itunes:link href="http://www.godcast.org/images/itunes/theGodcastNetwork.jpg" rel="image" type="video/jpeg">The GodCast Network</itunes:link>

It may or may not have at first but it does now. It needs to be in the channel section of your RSS file.

I know I have this right. It's been 4 hours since the change... animationpodcast, you must have gotten your change in right before they did a system refresh or something.

I wonder how often they refresh the feeds...

http://freetalklive.com/netcast.xml is my feed.

Ian, when I first set mine up it took about 24 hours to see the image. Not sure if they are moving a little faster now or not.

FTL, you're probably right. I think I probably did it at just the right time.

I don't know if adding a <lastBuildDate> tag will do anything for you, but you might try adding it to kick start an update.

Also, I removed the <ttl> tag. I'm not sure. but I think it tells how often to refresh. 60 = 1 hour. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Figured it might slow things down. I really don't know. I feel like the blond leading the blind.

My show image has been displaying since the show was listed. I also have my show log in the Podcast Info Descript which I think is pretty cool.

http://www.thezanyaguirres.com/images/itunes_pageimg.jpg (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73799493)

I also have individual show images displaying. Notice the show log in the Podcast Info Descript.

http://www.thezanyaguirres.com/images/itunes_showimg.jpg (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73799493)

Before posting the mp3 file, I open the mp3 file in iTunes, add the image I want for that show (Get Info) save it with the image embedded in the tags and then post it.

If it helps, here's my feed: http://www.thezanyaguirres.com/podcast/rss2.xml

Mine FINALLY went up after days of waiting. As long as your code is right, just be patient. 8)
