I've created my first podcast, but am having some trouble with the actual publishing/distribution part.

I have an ogg vorbis version of my podcast and an MP3 file uploaded to my server.

I can create the XML, RSS, and Atom page type things, but not sure what to do with those when I make them.

Also, I'd like to use bit torrent to distribute my podcast, but as far as I know I need to upload it to a tracker...is feedburner a tracker? I'm very confused on how to find a tracker, and all the big podcasts I know of like TWiT use feedburner, but what does it exactly do?

This podcast will be hosted on my own site, so I don't want to create a blog just to use this...someone please help!

Also anyone know about Coral?

Thanks,

Ian

Ian, Feedburner is a feed management service. They'll take the feed that you made and "purty it up" and put all the proper enclosures in there to make it podcast friendly. Supposedly next week they're gonna help everyone make their feeds iTunes friendly as well. Once you have your feed created, submit it to feedburner and they'll process your feed and make a new one. Just make sure you select the appropriate check boxes that correspond with podcasting.

If you have two different file types, you need two different feeds. In one feed you can reference the ogg vorbis files and the other you can reference the mp3 files. This can get a tad bit tricky if you're using content management software but I'm sure with enough fiddling you can get something to work.

As for bittorrent and podcasting, I'm no expert. Here's a couple of links that might be helpful:

2. http://weblogs.asp.net/cfranklin/archive/2005/01/17/354911.aspx

As for coral, I've had some success in using it to distribute files, but now I just use the libsyn service, as they provide "unlimited" downloads. I hope this helps, good luck.

Here's another thread that has to do with torrents and coral and what-not:

I still have not been able to find a tracker to put my feed on in order to distribute with Bit Torrent...who does everyone use as a tracker?

Doesn't the new version of Bit Torrent do this automagically now without a tracker server?

Yep. You don't need a tracker.
