View Full Version : Itunes not even updating existing feeds?

Well, I was listed without asking to be, which I'll take as a compliment, considering the situation some other podcasters are in.
However, it's still no walk in the park. I modified my feed yesterday to include the new itunes tags, and nothing has changed on itunes to reflect any of the changes I've made.
I did change the location of my feed, but the old one should still be working.
Plus, they aren't even showing my newest show, so there have been NO changes at least to my show's listing in about 24 hours. :(
Any other listed shows having trouble?

Any examples/suggestions on how to modify the RSS templates in Movable Type? I'm totally lost here.

They just updated some this afternoon...there used to be 25 in comedy, now there's 34....(last I checked), I noticed Corey and Joel and Distorted View made the leap (among others).

Exact same thing here. I updated the feed to include the iTunes tags, but the category, author, etc. remained and the artwork didn't display. However, last night I changed the "explicit" tag to "yes" on each show, and that did display for a short time.
Haven't uploaded a new show yet.
I suspect that they're in a "freeze" of some sort until they can get everything sorted out.

I'm getting ready to run out at the moment. But I spent all night setting mine up and I think it's correct. I can send you a copy of the template.
Do you have the enclosure plug-in installed in your MT console? This lets you post a link to the MP3 and it automagically makes the correct enclosure tags.
E-mail me at thinkanddrive@gmail.com and when I have a moment at my computer next, I'll grab my template and send it off to you.
Edit to add the link to the plugin: http://brandon.fuller.name/archives/hacks/mtenclosures/

Actually your old feed's not working at all. http://freetalklive.com/files/dircaster.xml comes back 404 "The page cannot be found."

I posted this elsewhere, but I thought I'd do it here if anyone needs help.
I've got a completely re-done WordPress 1.5.1.3 wp-rss2.php template done that is fully iTunes compatible with all tags.

I still haven't even SEEN my podcast listed 2 and a 1/2 days after submitting.

It's time to realize that it could be weeks before you're in there. Who cares.

Getting back to Ian's question....I just uploaded a new show for this week. Am I to assume it's not going to show up in iTunes 4.9? I'm listed and all that and it has all my previous shows listed. I only uploaded the new show an hour ago, but should I not bother to look to see if it's going to show up there?

And another thing that just crossed my mind. How about all the shows I subscribed to using 4.9? I'm not going to get updates? May as well go back to my ol' reliable iPodder.

It's been 48 hours since I made changes, so far none reflected. People who are subscribed will get the new episodes when they tell itunes to get them, but itunes hasn't updated jack squat....
Did they beta this thing prior to release?

I see what you mean. The latest episode is up now. Thanks, Ian.

Yeah, I have two feeds that haven't been listed either... I am guessing they just weren't prepared for how frickin' big podcasting really is...

Yeah it's a pain in the *** but worth it though, we have noticed a boost in traffic over the last two days.

Having the same problem. Today I posted my first new show in 2 months. If you subscribe to my show in iTunes, you do get today's show, which is Show #10 for me. But if you look at the listing of my podcasts that they have for Hoboken Rock City, the iTunes store only shows the first 9 shows. Kinda disappointing, but I totally agree--since 4.9 was released, I've seen a huge surge in downloading and even in traffic to my website.

Honestly, does it really matter if you're in iTunes immediately? i mean ****, if you are in there, only people that know your show exists will find you....

I was just wondering if anyone else has come accross this, and if there is any way to fix it. I would really like my new episodes to show up in iTunes, right now iTunes is 2 episodes behind. :(

iTunes is defintiely not up to snuff yet. In one instance, my Small Wolrd podcast was updated within a few hours. On the other hand, I posted the latest solipsisticNATION podcast last night and iTunes hasn't updated it on their end yet.

First of all, for subscribers, they get your new shows right away. When a user clicks "update" on the podcasts in iTunes, it checks your live feed, reflects any changes and gets any new episodes right away.
Just because it doesn't show the episodes in the directory doesn't mean users won't get them when they subscribe. Subscribers get the latest directly from your feed whenever they exist, whether the directory is up to date or not.

Right, I did notice that listeners get the new episodes right away, which is good. This isn't a big deal, I just assumed that iTunes would pull from the RSS feed automatically, but I guess not.

I'm still sure that updates to the directory will get more frequent as the whole thing is being sorted out.
