View Full Version : iTunes is already almost half of my downloads...

My latest show has been downloaded 5x more than its normal 3rd day average. iTunes accounts for well over half the clients used. That's without proper iTunes tagging.
btw, libsyn updated their stats, and it's flippin' awesome.

Wow...that's great, Jayson.
I'm having my best day over, but iTunes is only accounting for a small chunk

Yeah, its been great for me, too.
I'm not big-time like a lot of folks on here. My total bandwidth last week was 640Mb.
Today: 1.3 Gigs
I didn't think I'd get anywhere that many downloads after the launch. Needless to say, I'm migrating my files to Libsyn. :P

I don't have visibility to my host stats until the next day so I'll see. But my feedburner subscriptions have been up by more than 25% in two days. I suspect that some of this is people subscribing to our show on iTunes without having completely cleaned up their 'lemon' subs. - i.e. a bit of double counting going on... I really can't believe I would be picking up anyone new simply from iTunes.

Now here's an interesting thing: iTunes has my solipsisticNATION show in their directory which I didn't submit but they don't have my small WORLD show which I did submit.
Interesting.

Has anyone who wasn't in the directory been added yet?
Well my show hasn't seen much of an improvement from Itunes, oh that's right it's not added to the directory. Sorry, just a little bitter....

I will join you, for I have not been added to the directory. Let us raise our glass in mutual dis-satisfaction!
Has anyone who wasn't in the directory been added yet?
I checked all the shows I knew weren't in the directory this morning. And still nothing.

Holy smokes! You're right! Libsyn's new stats page is absolutely incredible! We've been waiting for them to get their stats page going... guess it was worth the wait...

What am I missing guys? The libsyn stats look the same as they've been for about 2.5 weeks.
What's new?

Ditto on all three things. I couldn't believe that my very first, "hi, I've just turned on my microphone" show had a ridiculous number of downloads. I'm planning on doing the iTunes tagging today, though.
The thing about Libsyn that I'm trying to figure out though is why the number of "unknown" clients is so high while iTunes is clearly listed in the little pie chart. The stats are all up but I'm still not completely sure how to decipher them all.

Congrats to all the iTunes listed shows!! I'm in the non-listed show category with everyone else right now.. submitted my show at around 12pm eastern yesterday and still haven't seen it show up like the rest of us.
Even more upsetting: When I try to resubmit it again to see if it gives a "your show has already been submitted" message I don't get one! It acts like my show has never been submitted, which makes me want to submit it again just in case.. but then I'm afraid that'll delay the listing even more!
So my questoin is: Can someone try to resubmit their unlisted show and does it, or does it not tell you that your show is already submitted?? Thanks!

Drats, Jeff. Of course you're right.
Here I am having a banner week...
Actually, even if you take away the itunes traffic, this is still our best week ever, but not as much so....
This is like that time Jerry and Elaine had the yogurt analyzed and revealed that it wasn't fat free.
Thanks a lot.

LOL Ferg,
Well our number of subscribers has indeed gone down a bit today as I suspected but overall quite a nice net gain (again, probably some still double counted - lol)... Yesterday's bandwidth result for me? Extremely similar to the a normal Tuesday following a Sunday release. If I just looked at numbers, I wouldn't have thought that iTunes had been released - i.e. no impact. THAT surprised me. Not on the level that I would pick up new downloads from new people (it's just too hard to find me right now "at random"). But I suspected I would get 'double' downloads as well for the same reason that there would be double counting on the subscribers. As an example, iPodder had already downloiaded Ferg's latest show. But I subscribed on iTunes and downloaded the same show again because that was the default and I didn't really pay that much attention.
So - mostly non surprises here for me...

I submitted my podcast on Tuesday, around noon. As of last night, I'm not in yet.
But I don't expect to get in any time soon, because everyone at Apple hates me. The local Apple Store wouldn't hire me when I was laid off, and their clerks ignore me when I ask them questions. Apple wouldn't let me into their iTunes Affiliate Program, either, and inferred that the Dave's Lounge web site may be ugly.
This hasn't stopped my download numbers from going up, though. So far I have an extra 50 downloads from iTunes that I don't think I had before. At the moment, though, I don't really trust LibSyn's subscriber figures, because iPodderX 3.0 skewered those numbers pretty badly. Plus, I think I got most of that small listener boost from joining AMP.
But hey, it's Dave's Lounge. We're always open...
-Dave, :)

Once listed, you'll notice that your feed could "Look better" in the store. At least ours could have.
We spent part of yesterday hacking the RSS output from Wordpress to try to fix it up. I know feedburner is doing something similar, but I really only want one place to try to enter this info.
Check it out, it's early, but I hope others can benefit.

i've done so on three successive days, and my experience has been the same as yours: it just disappears into the void! *sigh*
is patience the only alternative? i read in another thread that they're holding off on adding to the directory pending some fixin' of internal problems... anyone know anything more about that?

My dad submitted my podcast to iTunes about three weeks before 4.9 was released and I still wasn't included in the listing. So when we tried to submit my podcast we were told immediately that my feed has already been submitted. This waiting is killing me! They obviously have my podcast in a queue but that must be one LOOOONG queue. :(
