Any idea when My Alley will be ready for primetime? Ive been playing with PodNova, and its pretty slick.

The only thing I don't like is having to delete subscriptions from the website, not iPodder. It should sync both ways.

looking forward to the alley's version.

I've used both (My Alley and Podnova) and I actually prefer deleting subscriptions from the websites. I don't use the OPML, I just use the RSS, hence I have only 1 subscription (My Alley or Podnova) which contains all of my podcasts....

Now if you can just find a way to douche via RSS, you'll really be living large, Ferg.

Podnova (podnova.com) allows you to browse shows and add them to your subscription list. It then creates a super RSS feed that consists of the RSS feeds of all your subscriptions merged together - then you just use your podcatching client (iPodder, etc.) to subscribe to one show - your podnova subscribtion "show", and it downloads them all via that one feed.

It basically moves the subscription maintenance from your podcatcher to a website.

My Alley is going to work the same way, I'd wager.

What's the real advantage in these tools?

Just a bit more 'push-the-button-your subscribed' than 'cut-and-paste the feed address?' Is that what it gets down to or are there any other advantages in the "super"-feed paradigm? I suppose there is also the web-portal access and change your subscriptions anywhere vs. stand-alone application as well.... hmmm.. any more?

As far as I am concerned that is pretty much it. Plus it makes it easier to determine the most favorite podcast, no voting required, just aggregate subscriptions.

Yeah but that's BS because it's only going to count the people subscribed through that site. Not very accurate.

As compared to the MUCH more accurate voting approach.

No, they are both bogus.

The only true measure of popularity is listenership, which can't easily be calculated and compared right now.

My Alley will allow you to create as many playlist as you like through your podcast alley preferences page and add podcasts to them. like podnova, you will be able to add this link to ipodder (aka SuperFeed) and it will import all of your different playlists and the podcasts inside of them.

Podcast Alley is different from PodNova in that you can setup multiple playlists and have them transfer to your computer, you can vote for an entire playlist (instead of one podcast at a time) and more. Beta is scheduled for release this weekend.

Ditto. I switched all my subscriptions to remote at Podnova via iPodder Lemon and removed all my local subscriptions.

Maintaining all my subscriptions on the website is very simple. Only thing I need to do in iPodder is to establish the per-subscription.

Biggest problem at Podnova (at the moment) is funky search results. But, that should be improved real soon now.

I use the dynamic opml in iPodder and the dynamic RSS in bloglines.

syncing your "my alley" opml into ipodder lemon is very slick.

The Podnova Top 40 (http://www.podnova.com/index_top40.srf) provides a pretty good profile of what early adopter tech geeks might be listening to.

Should be interesting to see what happens to the profile as the Podnova community grows.

Ranking by subscriptions actually listened to, or at least downloaded, by registered users is at least as accurate, and usable, as other currently available schemes.

Drew. Don't forget the &playlists=no option (check the beta forum for details).

The rest of you. Close your ears. Or at least wait until Chris releases the real thing.

So is My Alley dead?

You had to dig a little to pull this thread back up. So the question... is My Alley dead?

Hell No! It is still under development while we finish some session handling, advanced voting and some other cool features. I know I said it would be out soon, but there have been some kinks in the development hose.

Now, where is that girl everyone talks about that can suck a golf ball through a hose...Ill bet she could help get things through the Podcast Alley hose quicker.

She'll just distract you with her 'hose sucking demonstrations'... she won't help you be more productive.
