View Full Version : Where to host my podcast?

Hi. I'm new to podcasting, though worked in radio for 26 years!

I just launched Radio Or Not, which will be comprised of interviews, most with performances, I conducted with artists at one station which was on the air in Los Angeles from 1994-97.

I put up the first show a few days ago.... it's Dave Matthews first LA radio appearance, from 1995, complete with a couple of songs he performed live.

I've signed the paperwork and sent my money in to ASCAP and BMI, and plan to stay as legit as possible! I thought I'd host it all at libsyn, but their legal section scared me away with this <<Regarding copyrighted material or music covered under the umbrella of the RIAA: LIBSYN FORBIDS THE USE OF SUCH MATERIAL IN ANY BROADCAST SYNDICATED ON THIS NETWORK. >>.

So, I'm looking for a place to host my files that won't boot me off.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Nicole Sandler

If you have license or permission to distribute copyrighted works, then you can host them to any webhosts. Just tell them that you have written permission to host the file, that's all. :D

Hi Nicole...

I know Net Logistics (www.netlog.com.au), from Sydney, Austalia, has some very affordable plans, plus they're very 'blogger friendly.' They've got servers in a few places (including the USA), and in a couple of different datacenters in .AU.

In any event, although it may not be on their site, they do have a couple of specialized plans for podcasters you could contact them about. For video podcasters, they've got 2000MB storage and I think 12.5GB of bandwidth for $14.95AUD/month (1 USD is about 1.20 AUD). For your type of site, you may be interested in their audio podcasting plan -- 750MB storage / 5GB of bandwidth @ 7.95 AUD/month.

I host a couple of sites with them, and know that others have been very happy with their hosting services too. Webhosting Talk has a review you may be interested in (http://www.webhostingtalk.com.au/showthread.php?t=2585&highlight=netlogistics), and I think there's a couple over on Whirlpool in .AU (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=65599&p=12). I've been nothing but happy with reliability of hosting. Problems have been few and far between, and the odd time I need to ask about something, support is extremely efficient (sometimes responses in less than 15 mins!)

So, you may want to check them out...

LibSyn is not going to "boot you off" if you have licenses.

Get in touch with them. They are the most reasonable people I have ever met on the Internet. Their service is excellent and very cheap, plus it is amazingly easy to use. Bandwidth is unmetered, so you can become hugely successful and it won't cost you more than being a minor podcast.

 No photos... but my Dave Matthews interview is up on libsynd. And I must say I'm pretty proud of myself for figuring out how to just put the audio there, but leave my blog where it is. (I know it's not a big feat for most regulars here, but as I'm learning this stuff as I go along, I'm pretty proud of myself!)

In fact, the next show I put up (likely this afternoon), is an interview I did with Ray Davies (of the Kinks!). I'm getting excited about this, as I have some amazing content.... all these interviews I've done that went out over the air once, and have been sitting on tapes in boxes in my house that will now come back to life.

I'd love any feedback anyone wants to offer...

Hi Radio or Not

I love your blog! That's exactly what I want to do - just use LibSyn to host my files and blogger for people to look at :)

I have a website now http://www.homespagoddess.com, I'm just starting the podcasting thing. I got a LibSyn account today.

I'm still poking around, can I ask you questions if I get stuck?

Thanks,
