Help, y'all!

I use an iRiver iFP 790 to record my mixed sound into. Both microphones and sound clips from my iBook go through a Behringer UB802 board, and until recently, directly into the iRiver.

I have just bought a digital dynamics processor (a Behringer MCX2600) to do my compression, gating, and peak limiting before recording. It's worked very well when I record into my computer. I now want to go out of the mixing board into one channel of the compressor rack, and then out of that into the iRiver...

...BUT it doesn't work. The compressor rack has a 1/4" stereo output, so I have a 3' cable with 1/4 inch plugs on each end. Of course, the input for the iRiver is 1/8 inch, so I went to Radio Shack and bought a 1/4-to-1/8-inch adapter.

But the adapter is too fat to plug into the iRiver! The little plastic ridgey place at the input jack of the iRiver keeps the 1/8 adapter plug from seating all the way. Of course, nothing is making proper contact, and I can't record anything out of the back fo the compressor.

Does anybody know where I can get a 1/4-to-1/8 stereo plug adapter that is relatively skinny, so that I can plug it into the iRiver?

You could get a simple mini plug extention cable for about $5 at Radio Shack, male on one end, female on the other. This cable should be thin enough to go into the iRiver, and the adapter will have plenty of room on the other side of the cable. The trick is finding the smallest cable possible to keep from any additional noise being added to your mix.

I'll try that tomorrow morning. I presume you're talking about a molded-plug cable, yes? The issue is the larger diameter of the RadioShack gold-plated adapter I got, but I'll just try to get a tiny (6"?) run of 1/4" stereo female to 1/8" stereo male cable.

Thanks.
