paid advertising in podcasts

IdiotVox www.idiotvox.com won on ebay 5 ad slots on the ZDnet podcast, which is the CNET tech show.

Today, the first of the ads ran on their podcast. I was excited about that because I was the guy that IV hired to make the ad, and it was exciting to hear my voice in that context.

Of course, it's just another podcast, and it doesn't even have any votes on PA!

But that's the power of a name like CNET. They can sell ads on their show.

So I just thought I'd post it up here, maybe some of y'all want to listen to the ad I made. Probably you couldn't care less, but, you know. :

it's at the 20 minute mark.

At the very beginning of the show, the guy mentions idiotvox and reads the tagline that I wrote, so that was kind of exciting too.

Regardless, I figure this might spark some interesting discussion in general.

How well did those 5 ad slots you paid for paid off in people coming to hear your podcast?

I'd be curious just in a general sense how much those cost you.

of course that is really relevant. I'll be able to answer it when the second and third ads air. Those two ads are specifically vox monitor ads, and I can look at the VM stats and say, oh they went up, or, no noticeable difference, or whatever.

This first ad was for www.idiotvox.com, however, and I don't have access to those stats.

the amount that Jay, the owner of idiotvox, paid for the ads, was between 300 and 400 dollars total for all 5 ads.

The ebay auction he won said "this is just to test out the viability of selling ads in podcasts, and all proceeds will go to the tsunami victims.

That's the sort of thing CNET can afford to do I guess.
