I'm tired of using aggregators. Now I just have a bookmarked toolbar folder for my usual pods, and I download them manually into a folder on my desktop. I rummage through podcastalley for new stuff and do the same. I upload to my Ipod and voila, plenty of shows to listen to. that way I can look at the show notes and decide if it sounds interesting.

I never got Ipodder to work, or many others of them. Maybe because I don't use Itunes (I use Ephpod).

I figure it takes a bit more time to do it all manually, but I can't be spending more than 10-15 minutes in the selelction and downloading process.

Any of you out there tired of the aggregators?

I started out in the reverse way. I used to just browse, download manually, and make note of shows I like. I now use iPodder and love it. It's so much easier, and it's easy to add new shows to check out temporarily and remove them if they don't fit the bill. (You know, like if one is too racist or something  )

I have a 40GB iPod so I have plenty of room because i only have about 30GB of music. I drive alot, so the convenience and ease of adding new shows through iPodder automatically is great.

Well I got Doppler and Prime Time Podcaster to work, never got Ipodder to run on my computer...weird, but I think you need Itunes, which I don't want on my computer...who knows, maybe I'll go back some day.

Hey Patrick, please I hope you didn't take me wrong!!! :D I listen while driving too, makes the time fly right by. I have a 40G Ipod too, with about the last 6G reserved for whatever. when I work out/run I use my cheapo Chinese MP3 player - 256 meg - plenty of room for several shows....

For the record, I tried iTunes when I got my first iPod years ago and didn't care for it. I uninstalled it and tried other options.

I have since purchased a 40GB G4 iPod and went back to iTunes to give it another shot. I love it now. I set it up to not do anything automatically, so I still have full control of everything. I copy and remove music from it manually so I love it.

When was the last time you gave iTunes a try?

December 2005 was the last time I used Itunes....

When I first got it........and got everything set up on it to run, spent a few days loading my music up, and then when I updated Itunes it ended up formatting my Ipod. Ephpod was able to recover most of my music, but tags were all messed up. My Ipod is now running fine, and I have been thinking about reinstalling Itunes and trying it, but really Ephpod does a good job. That's what did me in, Itunes' automated tasks....we'll see.

Chances are you will have to format the iPod to go back to iTunes. Just remember to NOT let iTunes automatically synchronize your iPod. Let it know you want to do everything manually.

This means when you rip (read: download) a new album you will have to throw it in your computer music library and iPod seperately, but it's a small price to pay for control.

F ephpod! Give iTunes another try. When the 4.9 update comes out with podcasting support, it will truly rule.

OK, we'll see. I feel Ephpod does a good job. No frills, but I have my ipod the way I like it.

Hey, what's your friend's website for the bag of junk? I wanna see it.

I'm on a Windows system. I use iPodder and iTunes --both work great! I can't imagine having to go download everything manually just as I can't imagine living with TiVo.

But he told you all he had was firewire cables! That ruins the surprise.

It's not even up yet. I'll let you know.

I feel the same way about ipodder and Tivo, although if the new iTunes does well I can get rid of iPodder - one less program to have on my machine!

If you have doppler, you can set the custom command line to run the sync and quit version of ephpod after it downloads an mp3. I found this to work rather well. However, I switched to itunes as it seems to sync easier without errors. The only problem I have with iTunes at this point is that for whatever reason I have multiple copies of some songs on my hard drive (including podcasts) and iTunes makes it a pain to remove them.

I'm on a windows system running doppler and iTunes. I love it all. i set everything to automatic so I don't have to worry about creating and syncing playlists. If I want to do something manually, i just quickly switch over to manual and do what I need to. I love the iPod because I use it like a flash drive where I can store the raw files of my shows if I don't record on my own comp. It's pretty convenient.
