View Full Version : Big Bad TWiT

I caught a thread a few days ago lamenting how Big Media is going to "take over" podcasting with one of the examples being This Week in Tech.

HA! If TWiT is considered a big bad boogeyman you podcasting vets have nothing to worry about.

Their site is a thrown together Drupal generic, they have their own sound quality issues, they're late* with their podcast, and I can't even download the sucker now that it's out. None of that is bad, of course. It's just obvious they're doing this on their own...just like everyone else here.

They do have the advantage of an audience rolled over from another medium, but I consider that on par with starting a podcast using sound equipment you already had lying around in the attic. People are going to take advantage of what they already have available to them to make a podcast work...why not Leo?

Hell, I even asked Leo's personal brain-care specialist, and he said, "Leo und zee gang, zey are just zeez guys, ya know." ;)

Anyway, I'd give 'em a break. TWiT isn't Big Media...they're just very popular.

* In so much as a podcast can be "late." They did set the expectation level of their audience, however.

I don't consider TWIT big media or corporate in any way. I think those guys have done everything they can to show they are striving to be independent (hell, Kevin just quit his job to make independent internet programming).

When it boils right down to it, TWIT is, after all, just a podcast. Not a radio show. Not a TV show. It's a grassroots podcast just like yours and mine.

I think the bigger problem, when it comes to diluting the power of independents, is what I call crosscasts - broadcast radio shows who have crossed over and now package up their shows and offer them for download as podcasts.

yeah, i'd have to agree. They're doing it on their own and have the same problems we do. They just happen to have been broadcasters and got to carry over the audience. I see nothing wrong with them. In fact, a lot of us could learn a thing or two about how to speak in 'casting.

Seems like they are having more troubles than most. Ive been attempting to download their latest podcast to no avail. Ep. 6 comes in fine however

FWIW: I upgraded to the latest ipodder BETA software and it seems to be downloading correctly now

EDIT: Or not :(

The only link that worked for me was here:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/twit-hib

Click on the first "Listen" icon. It's a torrent file, so you'll need the proper client to use it, of course.

Thanks for the info. actually I tried that feed to no avail. I have been using ipodder 2.0.5 and I thought it supported bittorrent, but I haven't been able to get the torrents to work. Nonetheless I was able to go to www.darksource.org and download it.
