Hello
My first podcast should be out soon on Podcastalley.com (Which I LOVE) and I have done interviews outside my home but always bring my laptop and all my recording equipment.
I would like to know what portable recording device people are using when out of their house, like interviewing people on the street for example.
My show is "the Sexologist Show" (Yes I am a real Sexologist) and I have a lot of questions to ask for my future shows.
thanking you in advance for any feedback on portable recording device

Well, unfortunately, I fall into the "budget" category.
I try to always bring my laptop with me, and I've got an Audio Technica hand-mic with an XLR-to-mini-jack cable. I record with that and then fix everything up in post-production.
If I absolutely have to have something handheld, I use an Olympus digital recorder that I got for under $100, with the same Audio Technica hand-mic listed above (though the Olympus has a decent built-in mic). There's a more expensive Sony ditital recorder that's better quality and has a mic you can aim (180 degree swivel, I think), but it's around $300 if I recall correctly.
The other option is to get a four-channel Fostex mixer. Think they run around $250 or so. You can store the recording in .WAV format on a Compact Flash card, which you can then simply plug into your computer. Along with the mixer, you'd want to get a microphone and cable, though the Fostex does have a built-in mic if you get desperate.
Just checked out your site. I'm glad you're doing what you're doing, and I wish you the best of luck with your show!

I checked out your first show. Some good stuff in there. I subscribed because I'm curious what you'll be chatting about next.
I live with my iRiver IFP-899 out in the field. I bring that and a cable to plug into a sound board (with adapters) and then if I want to do an interview I can just do it right with the onboard mic. It's not the best sounding, but I haven't found the right mic for it yet and it works for the casual type of interview.
