We want your 1 minute promos

Hi, I'm eric one of the hosts of www.voxmonitor.comVox Monitor, the podcast review podcast. We do a siskel and ebert type of show that provides in depth reviews of podcasts, plays clips of the shows that we review, and does its best to stay lean, fast and funny.

We're affiliated with www.idiotvox.com IdiotVox, the podcast directory. Cohry (my co-host) and I are emailing podcasters in hopes that they will send us a promo (less than 1 minute) for their cast. The plan is to eventually have a promo for each podcast in the directory, to facilitate listeners finding casts that they want to hear. Of course, we'll probably never have a promo for every single one, but we're going to try.

In the meantime, Cohry and I will listen to all the promo's that we receive, add them to the database, and pick our favorites. We will play one of our favorites each show, at some point during the show, from now until episode 30. (We do 3 or 4 shows a week.) Our definition of "best" is weighted heavily towards originality - quality of concept - though good production values count too.

This email will be posted in the PA BBS, and it will be emailed to as many individual podcasters as I can manage as well. So if you get this as an email, and you've already sent me a promo, just disregard this.

Yes, you may submit more than one promo - we'll pick what we consider is the best one that you send, and toss the rest.

The grand prize winner, announced on Vox Monitor episode 30 - which will be devoted entirely to playing all 16 promos that we chose to play on episodes 14-29 again, commenting upon them, and selecting the winner - will receive a box of prizes via real live snail mail. Prize box will contain many things, still to be determined, but it'll be good stuff.

The thirteenth episode was completed yesterday and featured reviews of Quick Hitts podcast, DVD Talk Radio Podcast, and The difficult listening channel podcast.

The fourteenth will be done sometime earlyish today - and....

it will feature our first best promo contest finalest!

--- which will be played at some point during the podcast. We've gotten half a dozen promos so far, and I haven't sent out any emails yet, and that's great. Thanks a ton to those who've submitted a promo. I'd like the competition to get tough with a lot of promos submitted. Those who submit early have a definite advantage, so get in early if you can - if you don't have a promo for your show, whip something together. Can't hurt, nice to have on hand, etc.

Congrats to that promo and podcast. If we didn't choose you, don't worry, you're still in the running for next show. You don't get kicked out the pool, that's why it's a good idea to get in early - still like fourteen more promos to choose.

A couple of things here:

1. To enter the promo contest/submit your promo: You MUST EMAIL IT TO ME. I love free talk live - great 'cast, great politics. But if they don't email me the promo, it isn't entered. The way I have it set up requires that I receive the promo in an email.

2. I have posted 2 vox monitor 1 minute promos, in response to a couple of requests to hear an example of a one minute promo. So you can check those out if you want - http://www.voxmonitor.com

3. IF you want your cast reviewed, please send me the homepage AND the feed in a SEPERATE EMAIL from the promo, with something like "review this cast" in the subject line. Again, the way I have it set up, it has to be in a seperate email.

Having your promo in your feed is a bad idea. You shouldn't have to subscibe or parse something from an xml file to get the one 60 second promo you need to sample. I guess its kinda nice to have it in the feed, but i bet that when you look at the feed on an aggregator there is 1 really short show- oh well my feed is fubar.


BTW- we played a vox monitor promo on show 8! Sounded Great Thx for making it easy to find!

But there are still 11 finalists to be chosen before our "Box of Prizes" winner is chosen in show thirty.

And remember, we accept and encourage new entries all the way up until I post episode 29.
