For the 30th show of Radio Clash I'm doing an Audio pOddities show asking people to send me the strangest, oddest or scariest thing they've heard - could be a sound, music, speech, anything - odder the better!
So what is it? A strange charity-shop record? Your mother's singing? The sound of your plumbing? A famous speech? The squeaky sign down by the train station waiting for the Harmonica Man to arrive? Modern radio? Adam Curry? :D
You can email me at radioclash *at* mutantpop |dot| net or phone the CLASHline at 206-202-CLASH (5724) in the States - happy for you to send links to audio, audiofiles (MP3, not too large) or impersonate or record it on the CLASH voicemail line, or just tell me about it - describe it.
Go on, surprise or shock me! I've already had a few entries and they are pretty odd and scary so you've got some work to do!
Send em to me and I'll mix em together for the latest show...

Tuvan Mouth Music. Singing monks who sing two or three notes at once with their voices. One of the most horrible sounds on the planet.
German Rap comes in a close second.
(All other rap comes in third.)

aha I've heard that via The Orb...very odd. I wonder if I can track some down. Any particular recommendations?
Ditto German rap - or Gunther, or Hasslehoff. I might play Pingu Dance, but then again I might end up not having any audience after that....;-)

The first sample on this page isn't really throat singing, but the second one is.
Try the song Kombu on this page: http://khoomei.com/types.htm
Warning! Before playing these turn your speakers down and remove any animals from the room.
The first time I heard this my first response was "Wow, that's amazing, how the hell do they do that?" My second response, approximately three seconds later, was "Turn it off, RIGHT NOW! Please don't ever make me listen to that again."
Most people skip the first response and go right to the second.

hehehe that's what i remember...strangely fascinating, quite jaunty, but also grating at the same time - it's IN!
have you heard Chinese Classical Music? Where they have that string instrument that sounds like a cat being strangled or a really bad violin? Reminds me of that....I used to listen to these both when I was a student, and being 'experimental' in my music tastes...*cough*
EDIT: That Kombu track...ouch. I'm sure that's what they feel about *our* music too, tho... :D

Some German rap music is decent- Die Firma and Fantaschichen Vier are cool, and Seeeed are plenty of fun (I used to pick up German satellite TV).
The scariest thing I can think of that's widely available is the scream from "Frankie Teardrop" by Suicide. Just a brilliant song all the way through, but that scream...

I just heard something on the PK and J Show (show 20) which I think would be perfect for mashing up- it's some bloke doing deadpan stories of love over a lone keyboard, in a Wesley Willis way, but way weirder. It's strange and beautiful.
EDIT: His name is Mark Turns, and the album is "Passions 1". (http://www.lilgoat.com/)
But, he's so straight-faced about it all I feel kinda guilty laughing at him now.
