Author James Rollins was our guest in the bunker this week. Well, he wasn't in the bunker; only our trusty dogs are allowed into that heavily-fortified space. By phone from sunny California, Jim talked about how a veterinarian from Missouri ends up a best-selling fiction author on the left coast.

He also discussed the amount of research that went into his new novel Map of Bones on Vatican spies, the Royal Dragon Court, and the bones of the Three Wise Men. The research shows; Map of Bones is a tightly written puzzler that is being unfairly compared to The Da Vinci Code, because Bones is much more complex.

The Royal Dragon Court plays a major role in Map of Bones. This is a group we need to study. Some of its' members claim descent all the way back to the ancient Sumerian gods and goddesses, including Enki (the "lord of the Earth"--sound familiar?), Apsu ("abyss"), the primordial waters; and Tiamat, the original Dragon Queen, who was remembered in Hebrew literature as Leviathan (and sometimes Rahab), the beast of chaos slain by Yahweh at the beginning of time (Psalm 74:14; see also Isaiah 27:1; Job 3:8; Amos 9:3).

All in all, James Rollins is an interesting guy with a great sense of humor. Even if he is a White Sox fan.
