I'm trying to listen to all inputs during recording and am experiencing a few difficulties. I probably have something connected wrong, and hope for some advice. Here's my setup:
- MXL 990 Cardioid Condenser Mic
- Behringer Eurorack UB802 Mixer
- Behringer HPS3000 headphones
- Turntable
- Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS soundcard
- Cool Edit 2000
Mic, turntable, and headphones are input through the mixer, and I output the mixer to Line-in on the soundcard. So far, so good. I'm using the "What You Hear" recording option on the PC. However, how do I bring wave output from the PC into the mixer so I can monitor it while recording?
Many thanks

You should be able to hear all source inputs right through the mixer. To hear the recorded file:
Just run a cable that looks like this:

from the output on the soundcard to the tape inputs on the mixer.

Cool!
So then presumably I could use the "tape to mix" option on the mixer, sending the soundcard output back as part of the line-in, right? Then I can switch from "What You Hear" to "Analog Mix"? as the rec option?

Wow I was here looking for advice on almost the same setup. I have the Mic and mixer... the cable in the link (I have from years ago).
I hooked that up from the tape out to the line in on the soundcard... I can't hear anything!!!!
It won't move the meters so I know its not recording. Not supposed to hook up into the Mic jack am I .
*Sigh* may need to get an actual sound card (this is built into motherboard).
CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT GOING!!!
Congrats on your new rig man.

K,
I think you have it backwards. First you need to send the outputs from the mixer to the computer soundcard input. You will need to make sure you have your capture setting engaged correctly in the soundcard utility software. This will allow you to record.
You should be able to monitor the source signals [your voice] right from the mixers headphone jack.
If you want to route the RECORDED audio back to the mixer to listen to after it is captured, you need to send the signal from the soundcard output to the Tape-input on the mixer. Of course to listen you would need to engage the tape-in on the mixer to hear the audio,

I am going from mixer (tape out via rca to 1/8th) into the Input. I am trying to record with Audacity.. but the input signal is just not present.
If this is incorrect let me know,

We have the same setup and it works great for us. You can listen to the sound from your computer while you record by using the tape in to control room buttons. It takes some playing with to get them to work properly but it is cool. Good luck and let us know if you get if working.
