I've found that if I create my post to the forums as a poll, it does not show up on the home page under "recent forum activity".
I for one generally get into the forums nearly exclusively via the home page links. I check regularly enough that the only thing that matters to me is NEW stuff. I assume most do the same, as a post that I posted as a poll went largely unnoticed.
Maybe it just wasn't particularly interesting, but it does seem that since there is actually a post to accompany a poll, it should show up there.
