View Full Version : iRiver problems with VBR encoded podcasts

After encoding the Catholic Insider in CBR (Constant Bit Rate) at 22.500 khz for a while, I've recently switched to VBR (Variable Bit Rate) encoding. The resulting soundquality is much better than with CBR. But I've received a report from someone with an iRiver 799 that he's not able to play these VBR encoded podcasts.

My ipod plays them just fine. Does anyone know if there's a fix for this problem? And is this just a problem on the iRiver, or are there more mp3 players with difficulties regarding VBR files?

I have an iPod and an iRiver 799 and haven't had any problems listening to your Podcasts --good job by the way.

I suspect the problem may be that a firmware upgrade is needed for the iRiver. Just go to the iRiver Web site and look for the appropriate file listed under their support section.
