We all know what we need. We need a one-click solution. I've gotten numerous emails that tell me they love the show, blah, blah, blah...and oh...by the way...how the hell do you subscribe to this thing so I can get it automatically? These are from people that don't want to know about copying and pasting rss urls into an ipodder or doppler or whatever. They look at my buttons for rss feed, and feedburner, and think they're advertisements. And we all know, this is the MAJORITY of our listeners.

So, get going you smart guys. I want a solution by next week!

Oh yeah....and it's gotta be free!

I know what you mean. I've copied and pasted feeds, and sometimes they work, sometimes not so well. This tech is still new, and eventually someone will make it more user-friendly.

My big harp is on the hardware. Most MP3 players are designed around music, and there's a lot of difference between a three-minute song and an hour-long podcast. Nether my MoVo nor my wife's Samsung YP-T7 will pick up a program from where you last left off. Once you start an hour-long program, you'd **** well better finish it, or expect to have to listen to the entire thing again! And it seems the makers of players never heard of a fast forward.

Maybe it is different on Ipods. I expect that right now Silicon Valley is rushing to design a platform around podcasting.

It's coming, but it's not quite there yet.

Odeo has a one click solution that's not quite ready for prime time yet. One click and you're subscribed, but I don't see any easy way to get past shows, and it's not obvious where your shows go when they're downloaded.

Podnova does a much better job. They use a variant of Ipodder, store what you want on their site, and let you add it with one click.

And we all know the myriad shortcomings of iTunes.

Consider adding a page to your site that explains it. (Feel free to steal anything off my "how to subcribe" page if it helps.)

They are definately working on it. I've heard Adam Curry talking about this a while ago saying that subscribing to podcasts needs to be one-click thing. Everyone who hears about it seems to agree this is the way to go, so I'm sure it's only a matter of time before it's a reality.

The Rio mp3 players will fast forward and "rewind" through mp3s files - but not on varible bit-rate mp3s.... argghhh! (Podcasters please take note).

Right now I tell people to just drag and drop my feed link to the iTunes Podcast window. It works with both the link from my minibanner on my webpage or full links like the one in my sig. I am amazed iPodder doesn't do this.

Granted iTunes will download episode 4 when I just released six, but bugs will be worked out soon.

On the first note, I have an idea that will hopefully clear this up with a one-click wonder...and put my computer science knowledge to use :) More info on this later, if for some reason I can't pull it off then I'll put it out there for all to attempt.

As far as the devices, I like my creative zen micro. It allows you to fast-forward or rewind (albeit a bit awkward) but more importantly you can set bookmarks to come back to later.

A new version of the OdeoSyncr they recently released added a few things to the right-click popup menu in the taskbar. One is "Show Media Files Folder" and another is "Change Media Files Folder." These two options make it a lot easier to find the downloaded shows.

I use Odeo because it's one-click to subscribe, and you can listen through the browser so you don't have to subscribe before listening. Getting past shows is only as difficult as loading the page for the Odeo Channel, then clicking Queue on each old show you want to download.

Let's see... "next week" from May 14th... meh... close enough!

I found myself in the exact same position as Charley. People wanting to subscribe, but not "getting it". So, I fixed the problem for myself, and for anybody else who cares to take part.

The "One Easy Click" subscription. Well... it's one click if you already have an account, and your cookies are set. Otherwise, you need to add a few extra clicks to login or create an account... but they are still *easy* clicks!

Anyhoo, it is free... http://www.podstereo.com

My gift to the podcasting community... please use, spread, enjoy... and help me with ideas to improve it.

P.S. My second post in one night promoting my new project... forgive the "spam"... there's no financial gain for me... I'm just excited about it!
