The audience that will be listening to my podcast is not particularly tech savvy. (they are smart, but just not tech savvy AT ALL...)
If I were to recommend ONE Mac client and ONE PC client for downloading podcasts, which should they be?
Again, I need the two easiet and most 'out of the box/click&go' solutions for my audience.
Thanks!

For simplicity on the Mac, iPodder (http://www.ipodder.org/directory/4/ipodderSoftware). That's the most basic one out there. Plus it's free (at least it was the last time I looked). IPodder is also available for Windows, but I don't know if that's the easiest one for Windows. I'm a Mac guy, myself.
Good luck with the Podcast!
Eric
PS -- For more bells and whistles once they get tired of iPodder, they should try iPodderX (http://ipodderx.com/download)(Mac only).

I have only tried one, iPodder, for Windows.
It seems pretty intuitive to me, but I am relatively techie.
You can also purchase a customized version that has your PodCast feed, and any others you choose, pre-loaded when your listeners install the program:
http://www.ipodderlemonstore.com/
They charge $25-$100 for the basic client according to "how the spirit moves you".

I'm a huge fan of doppler for windows. it by far has the coolest set of tools and is fairly easy to use.

For really non-tech savvy listeners you might want to consider also having an online player on your site for people who aren't yet ready to download anything.
We use the XSPF flash player: http://musicplayer.sourceforge.net/
it's free and we were able to easily integrate it into the site.
See: http://www.dvdtalkradio.com/player.html
We're planning on doing a customized ipodder in the near future, the option of customizing an app with your feed is probably the best for a non-tech audience because you don't have to explain how to add your feed!

I'm pretty sure that some of your future internet browser releases will come with RSS readers (and the ability to download enclosures). I think I remembered hearing Adam Curry talking about trying to get MS to include this kind of thing in the next release of Internet Explorer. If not in IE, Windows Media player (they already have hot-links to streaming media).

The new version of Safari for MacOSX Tiger does has a built in RSS reader today. Since I have not tried it yet, I didn't feel I could recommend it, but I sure am eager to give it a whirl :D

i just built in that Fabricio Flash player to our site. It was pretty simple using this site http://www.smoothouse.org/smoothouse/webjay.asp to generate the code.
I then manually inserted that into my main index file on Moveabletype, adjusted the height and width, and I think it integrates pretty well. I may prefer to have a simple, one-line player with each show posting instead of a playlist, but it should help people get the show.
One negative is the plug for webjay that's displayed in the playlist, and the plug for Fabricio when it loads. Check it out, especially our Star Wars spectacular, show #13!
