So sooner or later I'll purchase an iRiver for myself, but I had a sort of basic question that I didn't see answered in the user's manual, which I downloaded from the site...
How do you get stuff off it? Once you've recorded whatever you've recorded, does it show up on your desktop as a volume? Or does the software allow you to transfer files FROM iRiver TO Mac computer?
Thanks!

It comes with an OS X app that lets you transfer files.

Yeh, the OSX app actually works too. Just drag and drop your files to your computer. The files will have an extention .REC don't worry about that. They will change to .mp3 once on your machine. It's so easy, I'm kind of amazed that they got it so right.

Yea, it does work pretty well on the Mac--I wish it was more integrated (like an iTunes plug-in), but we don't choose these things. They choose us...
Overall, GET an iRiver if you haven't done so--they RULE the world. I've done a few shows with mine and it still amazes me how cool the thing is.

Moreover, it is the best possible mobile recording lab. Get a mic that terminates in a 1/8 inch plug, and go wild!

another interesting thing -- my iriver came pre-loaded with several mp3 files, but they wouldn't transfer to the mac via the software provided (something about licensing issues)
on the iriver, i changed the file extension to something else -- and then they transferred just fine...changed them back to "mp3" on my mac and they play
this makes it unnecessary to change the firmware on the iriver to make it a mass storage device in order to upload mp3s
