I have been thinking about the problem of making the voting and the implied recommendation process more useful.

One approach that could work is collaborative filtering (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collaborative_filtering).

Implementation would require both history/profile data and analysis/reporting software. Not something that could be done overnight.

Reason I am mentioning it now is to suggest that the forum archives the detail voting history for the month before resetting it for the next month. This could be used as the starting point for the profile base required.[/url]

Great idea. I wonder how good the "free" wares are though- seems like amazon etc. make their living through these things (uber-proprietry).
Maybe something lke a "Wikicast" would work in the interm? Don't know the software for wiki...

The software to support this is getting fairly mature. eg. See the Indy (http://indy.tv/) project.
