What kind of mic or software do I need to record two people into one laptop? We're trying to make a duo podcast but can't seem to get it to record more than one person.

Can you provide a little more info about your laptop, and how you're trying to connect the mics?
If you're going into a mic input and just using a splitter, it may be that your mic input is not a stereo input. If that's the case, you have a few options.
One is to get some sort of stereo mixer, and go into the line in on your laptop (if there is one).
If you can give a little more info about how you're trying to do it and what hardware you have, I'm sure there's people around here that can help you out.

Are you looking to record two people into separate files?

We do it the hard way! Our show uses 2 irivers and to mics. recording each person separately and just put them together at the end. You can even pan the mics to make is a cool stereo sound. Here is an example of our dual iriver audio!

I’m sure there is an easy way to do it but if you have a lot of money or a few irivers laying around then this way works great!
