I've produced my podcast on PC and on Mac and there are no definitive, free cart playing software.
I do everything on Mac now, but use JazlerShow on a PC laptop for playing clips because there is nothing better. And the best part is that it's free.
It has a lot of options for organization, color-coding, fading and is very easy to find and hit the right button/clip.
SoundByte for OSX sucks, even if you register it. Everything else is trial and crappy. Until someone discovers the need for this in podcasting (which will be soon), you're stuck with either using Jazler on a PC or buying a $1,000-plus Instant Replay by 360 Systems. I use one at the station I work for and it's great...but it's horribly over-priced and is matched by FREE software.

I use both Mac and PC. My downloaded copy of Jazler show makes my PC freak out. Maybe I should remove and reinstall....dang PC. :D

If you want a pay solution that is used by some small radio stations, check out BSI:

Their cart system is $300 though, so it pretty expensive for a podcast and has a lot more functions than you probably need. Singer would be another option. It is a little cheaper at $200, and allows you to instantly fire carts.
