View Full Version : Can I get the Podcast Alley Player on my site?

I would love to have the functionality of the podcast player on my site. I would even love to keep the logo on it.

I thought about just figuring out a way to put a link on my site directly to the player but I think that’s cheating. Use your bandwidth without the page visits.

What do you think????

Hi Sir,
I've said it before, I've created a podcast player in flash for pkandjshow.com
if you or anyone wants it customized for their own personal show, just email me. diehl@pupuplatters.com

Hey Pupu :)

I might be blind and/or stupid, but I couldn't get the Flash player to display on your site. I'm interested in seeing it, though...I'm a Flash junkie. I'm using a default player component that I customized on our site.

Also, very impressed with your main website. Nice stuff! I see you guys are in Columbus - what are the chances I'd be seeing you at FITC in Toronto this weekend?? (Probably zero since I'm cheating and going to a Canadian Flash conference instead of Flash Forward which is in my own city!)

Hey, a boondoggle is a boondoggle.

check out my site:

http://www.catholicpodsquad.com

click on the player.

all it takes is a java popup window that opens to the address of the player used by podcastalley.

Yeah, but it uses PA's bandwidth only. It's probably cool, but I think the question was for playing one totally off of the podcaster's website.

yeah it's a javascript popup problem with some browsers. you can get the general effect if you visit http://paul.pupustudios.com/TheShow/player.htm

Even more than that, I like the simple play button in your blog which will start playing the podcast immediatly. I would be interesting in using such a button/player in the listing of my podcasts.

Just use this and make a playlist as it explains. When a new one is posted just add a "track" to the playlist.:
http://musicplayer.sourceforge.net/

I use it here:

http://localareasecurity.com/podcast

and here:

with the pupuplayer, it will read your XML file and create the necessary amount of tracks automatically, so all you need to do is update your XML document.Building ID3 tag integration is very simple, so displaying images is at my fingertips as well if that's something you're interested in.

It's yours for the very small fee of 'your soul'
I'll start putting one together to match your XML document today. I should be finished by tonight.

My soul has already been given to a traveling salesman from Demoines in exchange for an upright vacuum cleaner. However, you could have the soul of my unborn child.

Thanks!

My soul is already accounted for but how about a nice big THANK YOU!

Also I was thinking could you change the flash to reference an external file so you would not have to recompile it every time?

Here is an example of such a feature.
http://byersplace.com
There is a file in the same directory as the flash its a text file and this is what’s inside.
<div class="moz-text-flowed" style="font-family: -moz-fixed">&text1=Family
&text2=Friends
&text3=Love!
&tagline=Home of the Byers Clan!
&companyname=ByersPlace.com
</div>

That way you would not end up with a surplus for souls and could save some time.

That seems fair. I will call this unborn child "Timmy".

It's kinda interesting you mentioned the traveling vacuum salesman. I went to Ohio State and graduated with a BFA in Art and Technology. In my performance art class, My group dressed as slimy/slightly evil vacuum salesmen selling vacuums in exchange for souls. We would constantly refer to our "Boss" and "Making our quota". I had 5 people sign the contract.

This is what it does. It only needs to reference your RSS feed to pull ALL of the required information to display. There is no need for republishing of anykind.

A nice plug for Pupu Platters Studios (http://www.pupuplatters.com) would be nice in place of your soul.

If you're interested in a simple flash iPod player for your site, I'd be happy to share with you the one I have cobbled together from opensource code. The player looks like an iPod (4th generation) and gets its playlist from a simple XML file that resides in the same directory as the html calling the swf. All you have to do is add new mp3's to the XML file (using any old text editor) and vwalah- done, no need to recompile the flash player (i.e., go from the fla file to the published swf file). You can see an example at http://mental-escher.net/ e-mail me if you'd like the the swf and XML files.

BTW- I like the simplicity of the http://paul.pupustudios.com/TheShow/player.htm player!

thanks.

I meant, you can scrub that little bar back and fourth and it will go to that part of the audio file. If the audio is an hour long, you can move the arrows to the middle and the audio will play at 30:00
Play with it. :D

I have used the Wimpy Player on my site www.battlingbands.com for a while it's DIRT CHEAP (20 bucks) and it has functionality that is not used on this site (like voting). Check it out at http://www.wimpyplayer.com/affiliates.php?id=36 the K-amp player just came out with the ability stream a single track (in addition to making your own radio station) I demo this at www.jammindave.com/k-amp if you want to see it in action. WIth the ability to now stream sinlge tracks I am switching to the k-amp player. Plus it doesn't tie up my bandwidth.

I inadvertently plugged your site when I learned that Popes choose their name, and said, "I will call myself, Pope PupuPlatter (Gabber JaW #6). What kind of telekinetic advertising channeling demon are you!!???

I would be more than happy to plug you properly on multiple sites in exchange for one of your proven-winner PuPuPlayers!

Show site: http://gabberjaw.home.comcast.net/
Show XML RSS: http://balzak.users.blogmatrix.com/podcasts/index.xml

If and when I move to a new server, would I be able to move the player as well? (I know nothing of coding...)

Count me in, too. Any tutorial site I need to go to for installation?

Thanks!

Hello peeps. It's PUPU Player btw.

I'm really busy this week, so I can get you a copy next week. You don't need PHP. All you need to do is take the .swf I give you and drop it the same folder as your RSS/XML file on your server. Just email me your xml feed and I'll customize one for you. diehl@pupuplatters.com
(it has to be on YOUR server, not feedburners.)

Yeah, the PuPu Player works great for me. (see the MP3 cloud on my site)

The only thing extra I did was add my cloud gif as the link and made it pop up in a new window. (But I just stole the code from www.DiscipleRadio.com to figure out how to do that) :P

Thanks again!

Thanks, I actually took that picture from a "public domain" picture site. I think it fits perfectly. The full picture is even more beautiful.

Thanks for mentioning CFR, Paco--and thanks to all who listened. Here's the link to the site of the developer who created the script for my "nifty online player":

http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=Flash+MP3+Player

It's free to use (though he also accepts PayPal donations).

Why isn't there a TRAVEL section in the Alley Directory? I really enjoy the 'destination' podcasts!
