View Full Version : 322 Podcast Related Domain Names Gone!

I use a service available at whois.sc to monitor domain names registration and have been watching the increasing numbers of domain names with the keyword "podcast".
Today I opened my mail and saw that 322 podcast related domain names were snatched up in one day. Most of them were registered by Domain Bank Inc.
The great podcast domain name land grab is heating up!

yea really.. i got my domain name last week.. with prices so cheap, how can u refuse? you are right though.. they are going really fast, and are going to be reselling them for a hefty price....

I'll say it again:
Why hasn't InterNIC released .blog and .cast domain suffixes? Isn't this a no-brainer?

There was a guy a couple of weeks ago who posted to the Yahoo Podcasters group saying "I just registered 300+ podcast domains. Come check out my list and maybe we can work something out."
He registered every variation of statepodcast.com so like newyorkpodcast,viginiapodcast.com etc. Then he went the route of madonnapodcast.com and pearljampodcast.com
I hate cybersquatters, but you knew it was going to happen at some point.

Personally, I think it's dumb.
I have a blog. My podcast is an extension of my blog. I see no need to register a whole new domain just for the podcast. (Besides, bugcast.com was already taken. :()

Thats why you shouldn't rely on having the word podcast in the title of your show. For most shows, having a TLD relevant to their show allows them to handle all the feeds, mp3 hostage and possible forums all from the same place. Cyber squaters were always going to be a problem once they realised how big podcasting is becoming. **** them all!
