View Full Version : How to categorize my podcast?

I just produced my first podcast and will put several more out before I add my feed to a wider audience (so that I can work out the kinks and so forth).

I've been wondering for a while, however, how I should categorize my podcast. My show is all talk, though I promote indie music among the wide array of topics that I talk about: politics, films, television, culture, books, Internet, media, and so on. So it's a show a little bit about everything.

Would it be best to try and place my show in Radio, Audio Blogs, Entertainment, something else? Does it matter if you place your show in a category with a lot of shows or too few shows? Or does it matter at all?

Any and all feedback appreciated.

My first thought is that you put it in the "Entertainment" category. That kind of covers just about everything.

Thanks -- I was leaning toward Entertainment. It's hard to figure out where podcasts/blogs should go if they're not focused on specific topics.

it seems that the categories aren't really that specific, because as you're going to learn, there are shows about almost anything...i mean there is a guy that does his show while taking a dump...where would that go???

Is the show really focused around the dumping?

I hope my podcast/blog, Dumpster Bust, doesn't get associated with that one....

i haven't listsened to it, but i think the point of it is to have crapping sounds in the background and the echo that a bathroom produces, not sure, but sounds like a good idea, maybe i should give it a listen...

I think I'd rather just play with my Jump to Conclusions mat...

(Office Space reference, by the way...)

His show is called "The Daily Download". It's actually pretty funny and not what you'd think at first - which is that it's sick. It's worth the "download" too.

Check it at: http://www.apeboymonkeygirl.com and his name is Chris Rockwell. I'm not associated with his podcast, but I have listened and it's entertaining.
