we use headset/microphone things that were like $20 and i think our show sounds just fine, bibb being a geek about stuff wants to get real mics and went out and bought a mixing board that he still hasn't figured out how to use, but ill tell you, the little headsets seem to do the job...

No doubt. I think that when a podcast ultimately ends up at 64kbps, too much money thrown towards better mics and pre-amps, etc.. can get lost.
But beware of two things 1) I predict the manufacturers will start to market to podcasters more aggressively and try to convince you that you need more pricey gear 2) just about EVERYONE involved in audio gets GAS (gear acquiring syndrom) - so even though you probably don't need them, you will (and I don't mean you in particular but podcasters in general) be buying better microphones / pre-amps / DA converters, etc... it's part of what makes us geeks and humans.
Don't say I didn't warn you ;-)

ill tell you bibb totally has G.A.S., i just have plain ol' gas, we will wind up with all this stupid new gear that probably won't sound as good as our stupid little headsets, they work fine for me, the idea behind the mixing board was to have more people on the show, which i think would make it fun...

I've had GAS since '92.... Can't tell you how much money I've spent on gear in the last 13 years.

Yeah but Yaz, if it weren't for my G.A.S. we wouldn't have the newest podcasting technology, I-Shizzle. This makes it more gooder for us to talk to people who don't want to be bothered with the crappy Skype.
As for your own bout of gas, you better start bringing Lysol to the shows or something.
