OurMedia.org (http://ourmedia.org) has launched a new site offering anyone free media hosting for life. They can do this by working with Archive.org (http://archive.org). So no need to spend money on hosting. ;)

Yeah, but you need to convert it to another type of file, so... no mp3s.

??? I have posted many mp3s on there. Where do you get that idea?

Yeah, but you need to convert it to another type of file, so... no mp3s.

Archive.org has tons of MP3's out there - especially in the music section for live music trading.

Where are you getting no MP3's from?

From www.archive.org
4. Before you begin your upload, please make sure that the audio files follow Etree.org’s Naming Standards. If the files do not follow that guide, the show will be frozen during the import process until they do. In addition, audio file must be encoded in either FLAC or SHN format. We do not accept any other audio formats at this time.

That is for their show archive. They only allow lossless for live shows but everything else has mp3. There is also a section allowing mp3 live shows as well. . .

Has nothing to do with OurMedia.org and archive.org partnership. . .

I agree.
Check out the Audio section of the OurMedia.org website and you will see that practically all of the audio is in MP3 format.

there was a blip somewhere about bear with us while we work out the bugs.

any problems encountered.

how long can it stay up before it kicks into archive? do you have to change formats then?

what kind of traffic is okay?

I have a a few (http://ourmedia.org/user/1381/) files on my account that have been up since March and with no problems. I have sent a ton of traffic there to download them with no issues either. They have worked out many of the bugs I had encountered when I first started using it. As far as being sent to the "archive" that does not happen. Archive.org is just supplying server space. Nothing to do with literal archiving. ;)

Plus you can't beat the price. . .*cough* *cough* FREE. . .

hey, i think ourmedia rocks for what thy ae doing, but when i tried to host files there at the beginning of may, it took about 3-4 days to be published. i would go to it, but not now, as it is very inconveinient at this time.

I've tried hosting video there and I never received a conformation. I might retry, but the whole process became very tedious.

Use their file upload program. Although the file won't show up in Ourmedia, the file shows up on Archive's server. (You need to search your file about a half hour after your upload)

All my podcasts are hosted by Archive.

I'm finding it easier to download the CCPublisher and upload at archive.org it's way faster than going through Ourmedia

This seems interesting, although it isn't TOTALLY free, since you have got to work in archive.org.
It will take me more time than expected to find a good free hosting.
