At our church we wish to have the minister speak into a microphone to connect to a sound system. We also wish to digitally record so the sermon can be podcast ( is “podcast-ed” the right verb?).

We could buy:
1) a new sound system with a microphone AND
2) also get an iRiver 700 series or 800 series MP3 player/recorder, plus a non-omni-directional, non-cheapo microphone. But that’s two microphones.

Is there a way to do it with one microphone?

(We have not selected our new sound system yet, so we are wide open for ideas).

Thanks!

You should be able to output/split the signal on your current sound system to a computer running Audacity or Sound Forge or any other number of programs that record a signal in. Then take the resulting file, MP3 it, and you've got a podcast.
