He never says it by name, but it's clear what Dave Winer is talking about in this comment today on ScriptingNews:

"There are too many plans for world domination in the podcast world, frankly I don't think any of them will work. A mini-dotcom boom."

He should be dissed. Call me bitter, but his entire business model and business idea is a rip off of my site, rizzn.net. I've been doing this since what, December?

Granted, he's got better graphic design on his site, but mine works.

ah well, he's adam curry, i guess he's entitled to make a couple bucks off his own idea. Just for the record though, I did it first. :)

I can't say that I don't disagree with his comment at least. It seems that once the mainstream media picks up on a story wanna be and real entrepenuers jump on it. Then it is like the internet(s) version of "shock and awe".

You have the:

-all-inclusive podcast hosting services
-the "make money from podcasting sites"
-your Odeo and others with all-in-one moron proof podcasting

The list goes on and on. This has realy only take maybe 3-4 months tops to come to fruition. So I see that the average person slightly interested in podcasting wil see al this "stuff" and think it is just another fad *cough* blogs *cough* wikis *cough cough* social netowkring etc etc etc

But that is the nature of the beast. People see something with a glimmer of being popular and devise how to market and package and slap advertising on it. ;)
-----------

"We did a lot of work talking to people on Madison Avenue and big brands, companies which are interested in basically finding their audience," Curry said. "They are finding that the [traditional media] shotgun approach" leaves something to be desired when an advertiser is looking for a specific audience. His site tells marketers it can help them "reach the most elusive target audiences on the planet."

Adam Curry should get a media whore award
Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but Adam Curry speaks out of both sides of his mouth, at once saying how bad commercial radio is, and in the same breath trying to commercialize podcasting to be just like radio.
What he fails to see is that once a podcast becomes beholden to advertizing revenue, it will become controlled by the hand that feeds it. There is NO WAY around the fact that money equals influence equals conformity.
