How many here do a live broadcast on the net and record it for podcasting? Also, what kind of setup do you have?

I'll explain mine to use an example:

I broadcast via shoutcast on the net (omitting server host so's not to get blamed for spamming LOL)...

I use WinAmp to actually do the live broadcast and connect to a shoutcast server. Both pieces of software and shoutcast DSP plugin available for free. (Charges may be incured to have a webhost run the shoutcast server)

My equipement:

2GHz computer w/2 soundcards (1 card built into computer / 1 card is $25 soundblaster live 5.1 - highly recommended for mixing talk with background music)

Behringer Eurorack MX 802A microphone mixer ($50.00 on ebay)
4 Radio Shack Unidirectional mics (part number #33-3018) plugged in for co-host and phone mic ($30.00 apiece + cost of stands)

AT&T 2 line phone w/conferencing. Handset removed and a heavy object keeps it hung up. 1 mic pointed at the phones speaker - external speaker pointed at the mic on the phone for airing my callers. ($40.00 at Staples)

----------

I run the mixer output to my line-in on the built in soundcard. Then run the output of the built in soundcard to the line-in of the soundblaster. (I'll explain this later)

My record mixer properties are set to "What You Hear" on the sound blaster and I use the "Line-In" setting in the shoutcast DSP. I make sure that in the Play Properties of the sound blaster I have the "Wav" and "Line-In" unmuted for proper fading between music and my line-in.

----------

Now for why I use two sound cards. On The Round Table I have two co-host that are located in other parts of the country. For this, I use the freely available TeamSpeak software to include them on the show. I setup TeamSpeak to use my built in soundcard exclusively. This prevents feedback to those two host. Because I'm using my mixer on the built in soundcard, they also can hear me and the callers.

---------

And just for you that don't have a lot of money, I also use Vonage for phone service.... I have one line @ 24.99 a month with unlimited everything, one line @ 14.99 a month with 500 minutes a month (4.9 cents a minute after) and my 800 number is through them @5.00 a month. The 800 number rings both lines so no matter what line is in use, it will ring the other or both if neither is in use. I also turn off call waiting to allow proper call hunt between the lines....

For voice mail, I have both lines use the main house number for when non show related people call me and I don't give out those numbers. The 800 number uses the second line's voice mail for people that call in to the show during off hours can leave a message and get a message that pertains to the show rather than my house...

You can set the 800 number to go directly to voicemail when your show is not playing. Just remember to change it back during the show so that you get your callins LOL.... I've done this...

--------------

If this is the wrong place to put this, I apologize....

I think there is a plugin for winamp that lets you have multiple output plugins active, so you could have winamp sending your stream to shoutcast while also writing to a file on the hard drive. I think it's called Output Stacker.

I use adobe audition to record during the live broadcast.... I then edit and add in my "This is a recorded show" sweepers before saving...
