1. The Bitterest Pill. Just listen. The guy is GOOD.

2. The Daily Source Code. For an everyday, 40 minute cast (for the most part), the fact that I never miss this says something. It's almost always interesting. However, Curry's on shakey ground in my book these days, because he's talking way too much about all this outboard gear he bought, which, in my opinion, doesn't really even sound that good. In general, though, it's a great mix of gadgetry, music and a peek into his family life.

3. The Daily Download. Am I hung up on the word "Daily"...am I hung up on poop? I don't know. I know it seems sophomoric, and I guess it is, but I still find poop funny. What's amazing is that for such a "goofy" concept, this guy really has his act together. Every show is planned out with guests, experiments, etc. Plus, it's only 10 minutes! what do you have to lose?

4. Kroncast. Betsey rules. You got 2 funny people who sound good and really play well off of each other. This is my favorite of the husband-and-wife podcasts, including my own (which I will not pimp here, believe it or not).

RED BAR RADIO.com

I think a program called RED BAR RADIO.com is one of the best. 50,000 nerds agree.

One of the best overlooked podcasts is Digital Flotsam (http://digitalflotsam.org). Great production quality and interesting music from all over that you have never heard before. ;)

I'll throw in a vote for the Bitterest Pill (http://www.thebitterestpill.com). Great show. Very funny. If you are a parent you can totally relate.

I also listen to

- The Daily Source Code
- Geek News Central
- The Colmination
- Behind the Scenes
- The Evil Genius Chronicles
- Esc from the World!

I think the following you MUST listen to

Benjamin Walker's Theory of Everything http://www.toeradio.org/
probably the most captivating podcast I've listened to.

Slashdot Review http://slashdotreview.com/
I try to listen to this every day. Can't stand reading slashdot, but LOVE listening to this.

Pitchfork Free Downloads http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/mp3/
Some of the songs here are excellent!

Here's some lesser known podcasts that I enjoy.

1. The Audio Collective
2. The Richard Vobes Radio Show
3. Everyone's got one

more mainstream casts I enjoy are:
1. Illinoise!
2. Tracks up the tree
3. Source Code

I sure wouldn't listen to "The Ponderplace Podcast" though, let me tell you only people who are truely dimented would dare tune in to that piece of audio filth and indecency. It's truely evil. So don't go to www.theponderplace.com and check it out. I DON"T want you to have to go trhough with a horribly undescribable experience such as that.
...or do. Whatever.

If a webshow may be grouped in with podcasts for the purposes of this discussion, then clearly one of the best out there is "Online Video" at www.loudmouthtim.com . 100 episodes have been made to date.

i know this may seem a bit self-consumed but i think one of the shows i work on - the viking youth power hour - is the best at least as far as content. we talk about the occult, drugs, politics, popular culture, music, etc. really, it's content you don't find anywhere else in podcasting and it's all served up with sizable amounts of whiskey, laughs and good music.

if you're a fan of disinfo.com, ra wilson, hunter thompson, or just right thinking and good taste you're bound to love it.

oh, and though it's not an according to hoyle podcast, benjamin walker's theory of everything never fails to blow my fragile little world.

The guy asks what podcasts people think are great and all Yaz can do is babble on instead of pluggin his own show and how we are the only podcasters currently using the I-Shizzle technology to make and record phone calls. Sheesh.

I am totally destroyed that mine wasn't listed on anyones list... so much for love of fellow podcasters! :)

I'll of course include the Daily Source Code in a top list, even though the technical issues of late are far less interesting than the material of previous podcasts, but he can't record gold everyday, right? I really hope it's only a matter of time before switched:on ( http://www.podcastalley.com/podcast_detail.php?pod_id=1573# ) shows up in someone's list besides my own. Shameless plug? you betcha!

I'm afraid my listening tastes might be a little to mainstream as of late, but here's my list for the week in no particular order.

* Bitterest Pill
* Dawn and Drew
* Ponderplace
* Illinoise
* Daily Source Code
* Reel Reviews
* PK and J
* Down The Rabbit Hole (yes I listen to my own show, occasionally)

(yes I listen to my own show, occasionally)

It seems I'm the only one of us (hosts of our show) that does not listen to our podcasts at least once afterward. I probably should, but I barely have time to really listen to the few that I do put time toward. I also get a kick out of the other two guys trying to remind of something stupid I said or did. More fun that way. :wink:

Dawn and Drew seem to get a lot of attention, but I've listened to it and I just don't get it. I'm sure there's a niche for them to fill, but I don't understand the whole thing about them being so popular.

Please note.. I'm not dissing them, I'm just asking others to tell me what they see in the show.

I'm certainly going to have to check out the Bitterest Pill. Sounds like it's appealing to a lot of people

I've listened to a few D&D shows, mostly because I didn't know what else was out there when I did... I also don't really get the show, but I do have some respect for what they've done, and how long they've been plodding along doing things how they want to do it. I just don't get the worship-like following they get from their fans. I think that is more a quality of the fans than of the hosts though. I also only get that from the subscribers to their forum, not from the casual or uninvolved listeners.

I haven't listen to a whole lot of these other podcasts, though I'm looking forward to being totally moved in to where I can make time for it. I'd really like to see what other people's odd slant on life is. We are having fun sharing ours. :D

For making me laugh out loud

The Bitterest Pill (the funniest American I've found podcasting) (maybe the funniest American ever)(I'm not sure I haven't met them all but he's **** funny)
Podcastpaul (the funniest Brit I've found podcasting)
Kroncast (tied for funniest/quirkiest couple)
Viva Podcast (also tied for funniest/quirkiest couple)

For making me think

Triple J's Hack (Aussie current affairs from the world's best "youth" radio network)
In Our Time (BBC discussions to make my brain hurt)
Free Talk Live (which I only listend to because people where insulting it in a forum somewhere but which I found to have some interesting ideas)
G'day World (Aussie techie type show with interviews)

For making my feet move of their own accord

Coverville (this man is my hero - finds the best music anywhere)
Podcastpaul (he plays cool 80's music in between making me laugh)

I listend once to Dawn & Drew to see what all the fuss was about - I laughed a couple of times but was a bit bored - figured they were haing an off day or something. So I listend for another few episodes but was still mostly bored - started asking myself if I was slow. Then I stopped listening 'cos it was the same stuff over and over again (maybe I AM slow - I can live with it - leaves me more time to replay Coverville :D
