Hello all, I had been searching for 2 weeks to find a program to play my theme music and sound effects while recording the show. Finally my search paid off.

Seems to have some tools for editing the ID3 tag and encoding files, but I have not had time to play with those features yet. Fully worth the time! Check it out. And its FREE

I only took a cursory look at the link. Tell me why I'd need this as opposed to, say, WinAmp.

I was looking for a way to map sounds to specific keys so I could press a key and produce a sound effect during the show. not so much for playing music.
Also you can trigger multiple sounds at the same time.
Example, we play our show theme, and sometimes mix in on the fly a sound clip from the movie we are reviewing.
The other thing I really like is the sound resets automatically every time it plays.

I have been using Winamp. I like to use shift-V toward the end of a clip to have it fade out. I still haven't found a way to have a playlist entry (a track) to end at its end without going on to the next track, anyone know?
I know Soundforge lets me use my midi keyboard to "map" regions to certain keys, but that's what I'm using to record. This is unfortunate. If I set it all up on my laptop that would work too, but the laptop is my work laptop and I can't really count it into the workflow of the show.

You might also want to check out JazlerShow. If you need quick access to fire off sound effects, jingles, etc, this program is pretty good. They have a freeware version that supports up to like 150 mp3 or wav files. In addition to firing off single sounds, you can quickly set up sequences to be played.
It's a neat little program and may be useful to some of you.
The Site:

The Freeware Version:
http://www.jazler.com/downloads/JazlerShow151Free.exe
Only thing that is kind of annoying it that it runs in fullscreen mode, so you've got to alt-tab to see your other programs running.

Yea, I liked that one a lot, but I could not find a way to tie a button or sound directly to a key on my keyboard. That was one of the main features I was looking for.

Anything like this available in the Macintosh platform?
This is exactly what I've been trying to figure out how to do.

I have not looked for anything for the Mac, but I did a quick search on the site I found this other program and found this.

The key search term I was missing is "cart it seems that this is a radio term that matches what we are wanting to do. If I understand it they have/had cartridges they had jingles and sounds recorded on. They would cue them and these things are software alternatives to those.
