Does everyone with a mic think they're some sort of expert and that everyone wants to hear "their take" on podcasting?

I am sooooo sick of podcasts about podcasting. If your goal is to make me reach up and hit the button to skip to the next podcast, please feel free to start out your show with it so I won't hear anything you have to say.

Yes, it's new. No, I don't want to hear you discuss it. Anyone can talk about producing a good podcast, but instead why not just try and PRODUCE something worth listening to?

Please, stop the verbal masturbation!

Well, as far as I can tell he is one of the new wave of podcast media critics who is way into the originality of model rocketry (http://www.flysharc.org/). Perhaps he rates the show with 1-5 rockets. With 5 being the best. A 0 would be equal to the rocket blowing up on the pad. Which evidently is what "podcasts about podcasting" get from the Ebert of podcast world.

But I will be using "verbal masturbation", I give it 5 rockets.

i thought the power of podcasting was the ability to listen to what you want, when you want, where you want...and to fast-forward if you want. If you dont like something, dont listen to it and move on :)

So true! I've been listening to a lot of shows for a few months now and I've really started to trim what I've been listening to. A lot of shows fail to entertain me anymore. I'd never attend a play where the cast stands on stage pointing out how cool the set is while talking about the other plays they've seen, so why listen to the equivalent?

For those of you who are into that, check out my blog! Here's my latest entry:

Hi. I have a blog. I am blogging. When I blog, I use my blogging stuff.

1. Cool! I have a blog too! Come read it!

I give Michael B's post 4 1/2 rockets. :D

I think I will make it my mission to go to every podcast site about podcasting and tell them they are "hurting America!"

I just made a video blog of my video camera in the mirror. . .it rocked!

I think though the original poster has a point.

I was actually talking about this over on the Podcasters Yahoo Group. The podcasts I really enjoy are the ones who stay focused on their topic and their mission as a podcast. I don't mind a little cross-pollinization here and there (oh geez I've just listened to the latest Dawn and Drew), but I can see where he's coming from. If you're a podcaster and want to mention another podcast that you like or htink is cool - keep it brief and then move on. Focus, Focus Focus.

I like that the podcasting community is that - a community - but I also like to hear podcasts about specific topics that stick to their topics. Reel Reviews is good because Michael sticks to the point. Brian from Coverville is the same way. He talks about the music, then gets to the music. OTOH - Say Yum is less about food and more about two people bantering - and there is a real glut of shows with two people bantering. You can put a specific spin on it - food or whatever - but it's still average folks bantering - and yes -talking about other podcasts. I xpect it from a few - but I'd also really love more podcasts about their given topic that stick to their topic of choice.

To that end - I see the original poster's point. I am not saying there's not a niche for each and every podcast - everryone's got a shot in this. What I'm saying is that there's more out there to be explored.

I hear ya, Gordo.

When I started podcasting I made an oath to myself not to talk about podcasting, and so far my record is nearly spotless. It's like reading a blog/article/essay where the author talks about his writer's block.

With that said, it's very easy to get sucked into talking about podcasting. Truth be told, I've edited out more than a few minutes of such ruminations from my shows. And it's not all rubbish across the board. There is a lot of very interesting dialogue going on out there, I'd just prefer to let those people (i.e., Curry) do their thing and go about doing mine ...

Which is typically spouting complete nonsense.

sounds like what these people need is a good podcast review podcast. You know, to, uh, podcast to them about podcasts and podcasting.

I know why now... I started on Page #2 and thought it was page #1

Remember when we used to record our shows on those old tape decks at our cousins house and it was what we wanted to do? That was Cousins house casting and it evolved into this thing which shall remain nameless

PODCASTING!!! I said it "****"

*Sigh*

Percocets are really good tonight man.
