View Full Version : Website hosting recommendation?

Folks:
I'm having a somewhat less than successful experience with Globat hosting my website. I'm considering BlueHost, LibSyn and casually looking at several other hosting companies with at least 50 mb of transfer monthly. Anyone have any experience with any of these companies you'd like to share?
For that matter, any of y'all have a host you're particularly happy with? Maybe just mildly contented? Maybe your webhost's servers actually work? Any recommendations much appreciated.
Thanks,
Tio Ed

I just recently set up an account with Libsyn. At first I was a little skeptical about the whole thing but then I decided for $5/month I might as well give it a try. Now I'm glad that I did. They actually have a pretty sweet thing going for podcasting/ media hosting. I ended up just creating the entire site there, but I know that if you have a site hosted elsewhere you can use them strictly for media storage which is still a good deal. At the basic plan, you get 100 megs of storage a month, but at the start of the new month it resets so the amount of data you can host with them is limitless at this point.
My only concern is whether or not they can actually continue with this model for the long term. In the meantime though it's definitely worth a try. If you want to set up your sie entirely with them, you do have some limitations with the design, as far as I can tell you pretty well have to use CSS for everything but the sidebar (you can use html there)
Anyways, I'm not only satisfied by their service, but actually quite surprised with how much they deliver for the price.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, Your Rabbit-ness, I appreciate the response and the good review. BTW, cool avatar - I'm afraid mine doesn't look nearly as buff and chiseled.

I'll second the Libsyn reccomendation.
That sucks that you haven't had a good time with Globat. I've been using them for about a year without any problems.

I have had more service interruptions with my website being hosted at Globat in the last 30 days (thankfully, I'm still inside my 30 day free trial period) than with a competitor in the entire previous two years.
I haven't tried it yet this morning, but I have been unable to FTP anything into my website for two days because of "server issues." I've got a backlog of Mp3 and XML files waiting to be put online, although at least my website is still online, unlike last week. My account's webmail still doesn't work correctly (another case of "server issues") and their customer service "live chat" just leave you hanging if you ask them anything technical, sometimes without ever answering. I'm glad they're working well for you and I'm not trying to disparage the company - I just haven't been getting the service I'm paying for and it doesn't seem to be getting any better.
Thanks, CC, for the LibSyn referral.

Just an update on the web hosting services allegedly provided by Globat - we are now in our *third* day of "server issues" which are apparently severe enough that people stuck in the queue waiting to talk to tech support are advised they are having "server issues with all websites" on at least three servers and can expect "intermittent outages" all day. Tech support will only repeat the prepared statement they're given to read and nobody is answering the phones at the corporate offices. I am currently unable to download any of my website files as their servers are refusing all FTP connection requests.
I have no interest in disparaging the company, just reporting the facts of what kind of service I am getting for my money as a warning to others shopping for a bandwidth-friendly web host.

I have been using godaddy for my web host and they see to be pretty good. I have had some ftp dropouts but those have been because of the connection with my isp. They seem to be doing pretty considering their increased usage after the lame super bowl add they did. It is cheep hosting and relatively good hosting and transfer sizes.

I recently moved my pages over to Bluehost in order to cut costs. I had a little trouble getting everything moved over with my Wordpress SQL, however their support was top notch and went above and beyond to help me get setup.
