The podcast player! ferf ...I hope everyone understands the time and effort you have spent since october getting to this point. My frustration is over .. the only podcast site in my world now giving me exactly what i wanted...
listening to a podcast without leaving the browser ...
i am just the supporter and the listener so i don't have a lot of thoughts about voting but now i will listen to so much more content because i don't have to use poddy this and poddy that.
thanks again.

I agree about the player - I think its really cool, but...
Now people can listen to the show and never come visit my site - so if one day I manage to get some advertising - no one will see it, unless I only talk about it.
And now if the Alley gets advertising - which it will soon, I am sure, "they" can advertise on the player which is playing my podcast and I am not sure if any of that $$ would come my way!!
Plus, How will I be able to see my traffic - or how many people will have heard the show??
Just a thought!!

cat, i agree with you. but i am a lazy listener. i hated the whole finding podcast, copy feed, paste into catcher, transfer to ipod ... great if i listen away from my computer. but i don't. i been on ferf for a long time to make it easier for a lazy one like me.
cat .. i am going to listen to your podcast and if i am interested i will visit your website. i would do that to anyone i like ... visit dnd, coverville, etc
look at it this way .. if it didn't get easier i wouldn't visit anywhere. lazy hud would turn on some music instead of the old five step podcast drill. this is better .. simply an option for everyone. i have already turned ppl onto podcasts today using the podcast player.
good luck with your podcast.

I do agree that the player on the site is really cool and that it may bring more listeners to my show, and I do mention my website often since I have links to my topics - but I guess if the Alley makes money when someone clicks on it, I just don't want to be left out of the potential!!
But this is way ahead of the subject now - we are actually doing this for fun and if more people listen the better - and it does make it much easier!!
So there - I have managed to be completely unsure of what I really want - It's great being a woman :-)
Hud - thanks for giving my show a listen - hope you like it.

I thought about the idea that this may decrease people going to our site as well, but then I realized, if people are actually listening to podcasts the way they are intended, they never come to our site anyways to get a new show! That's the whole idea of podcasting is that it shows up automatically on the iPod. Then, if they like the show or want more information, they can go visit the site.
Therefore, I'm now of the opinion that this just gives people one more way to "test" a show before adding it to their iPodder client of choice. Whether they are listening to it on a player on Podcast Alley, or on their iPod itself, the fact is that most people aren't actually at your website when they are listening anyways.
We've actually just added a similar flash player to our site (although for some reason it's not scraping the RSS feed properly and we get "undefined" for each track - if anyone has a solution to that, let me know. I want to avoid having to generate my own playlist if possible since that's just one more thing to do after a show - that's why I like the idea of it being able to get the playlist directly from the RSS feed.)

... exactly. it truly is about the content and the content is the podcast ... not the website. Your website becomes a natural extension of the podcast itself. Indeed if one likes the podcast they WILL visit the website.
now comes the trick ...
how to make the content of your website interesting and filled with text and graphical content that makes people want to revisit. now you become web designers as well as podcasters.
i mean really if the website offers just show descriptions and notes - i for one might not come back because you offer only your audio content that lazy hud will get through podcast alley.

im working on a code that will let you hook the flash player on the podcast alley site from yours. is that something you would be interested in.

I'm interested in it...but it's not that hard to figure out. For those who know how to google search, copy, then paste!

I actually copy and pasted (and changed) the one from Catholic Podsquad and for some reason, my RSS feed doesn't work, even though we both us WP.
Webjay has started a "bug" thread about it.

Hopefully it'll get sorted out soon.

hey, did you guys see the new podcast player? you should check it out.
it is branded, cleaner, has a mute button, pause button, and you can fast forward and rewind.
there is also a beta video player, but all it does is embed the movie in a new window with quicktime. not an actual player. no one seems to know now to do this.
comments?

ok, how excited can one get over a pause button. first the player ... NOW pause. i am setting here in my office listening to my favorite podcasts on the podcast alley player .. the phone rings and now is can click pause and not miss a thing.
thanks again, ferf. i shall now be quiet :)
fyi ... for all the podcasters reading. lazy hud has listened to at least 20 podcasts since this weekend and at least half of those are new ones i haven't listened to before. plus, i visited a few websites based on the shows. some of the podcaster home sites are well done. a lot of time spent not only podcasting but creating content.
good job everyone .. the supporter and listener appreciates your effort.
