Listen, really, who cares about being at the top of a stupid list? I mean, if the show is a quality show, and you are doing what you want with it, who gives a crap about getting votes?
Yeah, it's nice to have some validation, but seriously, there are greater tragedies than losing a star on your rating at Podcastalley.

True, the ratings don't mean the show is any good, but getting posted on the top of the list gets you free advertising that gets more people to listen to your show. Seeing that most people have paypal links for donations and from what I've heard those people make some money at this. Dawn and Drew have managed to get an iPod photo from listener contributions, Adam Curry's sold a bunch of Senseo coffeemakers that he gets a little kickback from.

A good show is a subjective thing, but it might get people a few bucks if they're up there.

I think that the biggest offense in any of these cases, namely the one garnering a lot of attention from us today, that is making this a big deal is that it is someone saying "vote" them down.

The podcasting community is growing and this is a first. This isn't like targeting a show and saying I want those numbers and I'm going to earn it, it is someone making a personal attack. And that is unacceptable and peopel should defend themselves. Especially when they helped to build the community.

I agree that the rankings have not that much to do with quality and the good shows, or shows that any of us consider good, have personal value. It may not be only produciton quality but content that means sometihing to the listener.

But the rankings do get people in front of the media and are a strong motivator, even in our small pond.

I couldn't even tell you where most of the shows I listen to are ranked I've never really cared to look.

I use to care about the whole voting, but I've decided it's just not worth it to worry about in my book. No more pimping for me. :)

Hi everyone:

I honestly could give a **** about the voting system because being the former Live365 (http://www.live365.com/) Broadcaster that I am, I know the system can be abused.

The only thing I care about the most is the number of subscriptions. That why I have a Feedburner account. :D

In other words, if people vote for me, great. If not, oh well. Life goes on. That doesn't mean I won't at least mention on occasion and perhaps even passively that my show is on the Alley though. :D

i still go to shoutcast, all free.

so when they talk about podcast explosion and all that b.s.
i'm reminded of streaming mp3's of love and no explosion there.

Give it up dude, your a RADIO podcaster only slightly above BIG SEMINAR LIVE podspammers. It is people like you who talk about other podcasts you are losing to and making the whole rankings such an inflated joke. It won't be long until the community as a whole completely disregards people who act as if they aren't COMMERCIAL RADIO hams.

Have fun at the top 10, nobody cares about it, the more you talk about it on your Radio Show the more you sound like every OTHER radio show.
