The quality of my mp3 files suffer after uploading to my server. There are nanosecond skips that make the sound jump or completely fall out. It's completely random when they occur. I don't appear to be missing data when the upload is complete and the file sounds perfect before sending.

I have a Verizon DSL connection, but I'm situated in Micronesia on the island of Saipan (about 100 miles north of Guam) and Yahoo is my host. Could it be the distance? Do you think finding a server closer to home would make a difference? Is it the Yahoo server?

You can listen to the file at: www.ritmolatino.org/RitmoLatino022705-1.mp3

All thoughts welcome. Thanks!

Hey:

Cool show - my compliments to the chef. I'm going to take a wild guess that the problem occurs during satellite transmission. The noise and static I could hear sounded a lot like the kind of interference that happens to cell phone calls during solar storm activity. If the file sounds good prior to sending to your server, I'm thinking that the distance involved means the signal for your phone call is losing chunks of data somewhere between Saipan, the satellite and wherever the signal goes earthside to the receiver that routes the phone signal to your server.

Just my humble opinion - your mileage, and the truth, may vary.

Muchas gracias Tio Ed for the compliment on the show and I appreciate your thoughts on the manner -- but fortunately it's not what you thought (because if it was, I'd just vomit).

I turned to a new server and everything sounds crystal clear now. I guess the Yahoo small business server kind of sucks -- although I still can't see why it should.

Anyway. for anyone who may have listened to Ritmo Latino in the past and could hardly bear to give it a minute or two of attention due to the sound quality, please give it another try. The most recent files from the 2/27/05 show:

Salsa, merengue, bachata, cubmia, alternative, electronica, disco-smut…es diferente, es bonito, es muy chido, es Ritmo Latino.

Thanks...
