Hey folks, after many people kept requesting them, I have created XML Feeds and OPML feeds for a number of different things. Feeds can all be found at the Bottom of the Homepage
1. Top 10 Podcasts
- XML >> Title, Description, Link to Podcast Feed
- OPML >> Title, Link to Podcast Feed
2. Top 50 Podcasts
- XML >> Title, Description, Link to Podcast Feed
- OPML >> Title, Link to Podcast Feed
3. 10 Newest Podcasts Approved
- XML >> Title, Description, Link to Podcast Feed
- OPML >> Title, Link to Podcast Feed
4. Featured Podcast Feed
- XML >> Title, Description, Link to Full Feature, Date Added
All feeds are genereated at 1 AM Every day. This saves my server some processing power to recalculate the feeds everytime someone requests the feed and will make the site as a whole stay quick.
Feeds can all be found at the Bottom of the Homepage
* NOTE - I would like to create more feeds but would like to know what you would like to see. Top 10 by Genre feed comes to mind, but what else?

It has been mentioned elsewhere, and I agree that there ought to be a Talk Show genre.
Your thoughts?

I wish it was more than top 10... :( its not easy to get up there.. 15 or 20 would be nice and give some other podcasts some visibility...

Will the overall top ten or top 50 still be in place?
The genre divisions are a great idea, but it seems like it may hurt Podcast Alley's site because it would become more time consuming to check out what you wanted.
How many columns could you run side-by-side?

Yes, top 10 and 50 Will remain in place. The goal si to provide top 10 and 50 overall, by month, and by genre. These will be updated most likely in real time (some only once a day to keep server load low).
And what do you mean by "How many columns could you run side-by-side?"

This is great, i've incorporated your guide into my software and i'm sure all the other developers will do the same.
The easier listeners can find podcasts to listen to the better - looking forward to the top10 by genre...
Have you considered having an "overall" opml that links to your "sub" opmls? - that might give you a little more control of how the different sections are shown in the software, and therefore a more "standard" view of the "Podcast Alley Directory".
Also - have you considered putting your "pod_id" somewhere in there so we can link direct to the correct pages / descriptions / voting places from the directory? It might drive a bit of traffic to you.

I took that to mean he was trying to imagine a whole bunch of top tens on one page.
I expect it would be instead displayed on each genre listing's page, as opposed to the front page of the site.

Yes, I was thinking of genre columns -- top 10's or top 50's. Hmmm... maybe like News, or Tech or whatever overall and then the sub genres next to them.

Not sure if it will come out formatted right, but what do you think?

I like the ideas. Like I said, i have the top 10s all done just need to do some final testing to make sure they are being updated properly. I also am about 80% done with the top 10 by month for the site. It is in BETA testing now.
as for including the pod_id, i can prolly do this. Would there be any reason why this would cause a problem with Feed Readers of any type, or will it just skip over the data?

The pod_id's shouldn't cause a problem with a real xml parser, but you never know if people have implemented custom parsers etc....
I'd suggest putting them in at the start would be better than leaving it.
