With the number of podcasts starting to show up, we need a place to priase and bitch about different podcast hosting and web hosting sites and plans. This forum is dedicated to just that.

Post the name, web link, and a review of your host. Lets weed out the crap and find out what seems to be the best, and most affordable.

For a list of sites for podcast hosting, visit the resources section here:

ourmedia is a joke. I tried it and it was always slow to load and just acted goofy to me. I mean the design of the page would disappear and get lumped to the left side of the page. I then found Podomatic.com and been very happy. Though they limit the space to 250megs. But hey it's free!

I would like my site to be included as one of the hosting options on the page. I know there are a few members here that use my service. www.switchpod.com
Thank you

Ourmedia is good for starters because it's free. I recently moved my stuff to 1and1. They have great features and prices but I'm not too impressed with their speed. Anyone else use 1and1? Thanks

I've been using Site5 (www.site5.com) for almost a year now. Downloads are super speedy, support is fast and helpful and uptime is great! They have all the tools you expect (awstats and fantastico) and plenty of other features.

There current special is $7.77 per month (paid in advanced) for 11GB of storage and 400GB of bandwidth a month.

They have other features too that are worth checking that are especially helpful if your site gets a sudden spike in traffic to make sure that it stays live.

I don't use them (yet), but they have been recommended on the Alley before: http://www.siteground.com

500 GB traffic
12000 MB space
10 MySQL/Postgre DBs
for $5

After go through more than 40 hosting site. Libsyn and Podbean are two of the best. The common is they both provide unlimited storage/bandwidth, and almost all the podcasting features you requires. The difference is libsyn is specific for podcasters, but podbean has a very strong multimedia blog system that drive podcast, text/audio/video blog together with ease. Also, Libsyn has longer history but a little bit expensive.

Podomatic is another good site, except that it's site control is not easy to use for amateurs.

I've been using Streamload/Mediamax since I started podcasting The Right Perspective. It works as a secure storage site (with unlimited space for storage) that allows you to send files to others, but it also allows you to "host" files so other can download them from a link.

The download rates are very fast and it also allows you to play the files directly instead of downloading them if you want.

It gives 25 GB in free downloads just for signing up.

Be sure to mention my account, "DJIced", when you sign up (I get some extra download space when you do so).

I've been using Pipe Ten in the UK since June when Fasthosts booted me off their "Unlimited bandwdith" servers.

If you need a UK based host I'd definitely recomend getting a quote from them, full details can be found at:

If you are paying that ($114) a month for podcast hosting you are off your rocker.

I just started podcasting about three weeks ago using podomatic, mainly because it was the first free place I came across. It seems okay so far, but their stats have had problems. I also started using podshow but I find their whole interface to be confusing, so while I've been able to upload shows there I don't really like navagating through there. That may be because I'm an idiot.

What about a place like archive.org? You can host as many files as you want there. Could that be used?

I agree. There's no reason anyone should be paying that kind of money. None.

I'd like to put in a plug for Podango, www.podango.com (http://www.podango.com/) Before anyone asks, I'm just going to admit that, yes, I am connected to them professionally. Nonetheless, the things I'm saying are true.

Podango offers free hosting, an integrated editing and advertising platform, as well as the ability to create stations with other podcasts. The best part of all, even better than the free hosting, I mean, is the ability to actually make money with your podcast without going through the hassle of finding your own advertisers (and the revenue is split with you 50/50).

The Internet Archive (http://www.archive.org/) allows you to post content to it and it's free :)

There are no restrictions on file size or bandwidth. If you post the content somewhere else, they will eventually upload it to their servers anyway.

Once your content is there you can link to it in your normal RSS (.xml) feed in the usual way.

I've not come across any unexpected restrictions.

I've tried using Ourmedia/Spinxpress to link to my archive.org files, but the feeds don't seem to be fully compatible with Podcast Alley. I hope someone can help me figure out how to modify my podcast on Podcast Alley (see my earlier thread).

Until then, I'm not quite sure what to do.

personally, i use www.host100gb.com and www.1and1.com

they are fast and a good deal. and are the largest shared hosting (http://host100gb.com) provider

it include a domain name, 100Gb of web space (http://host100gb.com), 20 email addresses, 2GB of mailbox space per account, 100 MySQL databases (http://host100gb.com), 100 email aliases, photo galleries builder, web builder, blog and rss capabilities, firewall protextion, etc....

and that is only the beginner package at $4 a month. Go up to $5 a month, and get 100Gb of space, 1200 email accounts, 2 domain names, host many other websites there as well, 25 MySQL databases, etc. etc. etc....

they are the best deal i think. I've used them to host (http://host100gb.com) over 65-70 web sites.

I went there and their domain expired on 9/9/09.

This is the problem I have with "free" sites.

I will soon be asked to come up with a Podcast carrier for a major non-profit. I need something rock solid and not a "free" one.

Any ideas aside from this one?

Hello to everyone,

My name is Mel Fabregas, host of The Veritas Show (http://www.verit*****w.com).

I'm giving up on Podbean. They worked great, but for the last two weeks, on the day of our broadcast (Friday) they shut down due to high traffic.

I'm looking for that perfect balance between performance and price. What are you using lately?

Thank you and I'm looking forward to interacting and learning from all of you.

All the best,

Mel
