I'm just wondering how the order in the top 50 list works. I only ask because folks seem to disordered (at least in the late 20's, early thirties) -- meaning the actual position doesn't match the numbers. I wondered if maybe comments are worth a certain number of votes, and therefore someone with 100 votes but 10 comments can be above someone with 110 votes but 2 comments. Or maybe votes coming from more distinct URL's get places higher. Or is the vote automatic but the positioning done manually? Or is there just a problem with that bit of whatever that orders the list?

Not that these are life or death questions, but it was just an intriguing little puzzle to play with. And it had some bearing on where to encourage listeners to leave comments as well as vote.

From what I can see your average score takes precedence over the number of votes. So you can have 100 votes but have an average of 3 stars and still be below someone who has 60 votes but an average of 4.5 stars.

actually, the top 10, 50 etc are calculated like this:

it sorts all the podcasters by the total number of stars and then sorts by the lowest number of votes. the reason this is is because if 1 person voted 5 stars for their podcast, their rating would be 5. but if 99 people voted 5 stars and 1 person voted 4, their average stars would be lower than the first.

by sorting by total stars, and lowest votes we get the ordering system. a new system, however, is in the works.

if the site ordered just by total votes, a person with 1000 voters with a 1 star rating could be ranked #1 or #2 in the site....make sense?
