Could pocasting deliver newspapers to the blind automatically?
At the moment charities record, copy and deliver newspapers on casette to the blind. Instead of all that processing, could an RSS feed be read by a machine every so often, which would then play an mp3 of the news?
Hardware would have to be developed which can simply be connected to a phone line, automatically download mp3's, and a simple interface capable of being operated without sight would be required.
We already have all the components, it's just a matter of sorting them out into a useful format.

What do you think?

neil...there is already a software that i have seen recently that does just this type of thing. the thing is, i never really thought about making it read newspapers. grand idea!

i know nothing about it, but it was submitted to me for inclusion in the software directory. its up to you to find out if it will work :)

Thanks for your input!
I think that the main problem would be hardware, not software. It is very hard to carry out even the simplest tasks in a computer without seeing it. If a simple standalone device could be developed, then software would be the issue, but without a device which is easy to operate without sight i don't think that this idea could ever become reality.
