iTunes vs. my iRiver Music manager. Is there some automation that will get only my new Podcasts into some kind of a folder so that I can just drag "new podcasts" into my iRiver.

Is anyone doing something like that?

I'm suprised all podcast software is still written for the iPod. After subscribing and downloading content, which media player it gets sent to should be a module.

I'm an ipod user, so it only bothers me in principle, but I have thought about writting a new client to address that issue.

I'm new to iTunes. How does this work, does Doppler or ipodder just place the files somewhere special? My podcasts always seem to be mixed in with all of my other music files.

I use iPodderX on the Mac, and can't vouch for the PC but this is basically how it works. It transfers the podcasts to the Music Library. It also makes a special playlist for each podcast I'm subscribed to. I set the Genre to "podcast" in IpodderX and then when I want to see all of my podcasts I just use iTunes to filter by Genre.

One step better is "Smart Playlists". I have one that is set up to say "Include all of the music whos genre is "podcast" and whos playcount is 0".

This lets me keep track of podcasts I havn't yet listened to in a neat dynamic playlist called "New Podcasts". As soon as I finish listening to the podcast, the playcount is > 0 and the smart playlist removes it from its queue.

PPR (for windows, http://www.primetimepodcast.com) will allow you to specify a download folder where all of your podcasts will be downloaded to, separated into subdirectories named according to the feed the podcast comes from. Just right click on PPRs download list to explore the download directory. There are also the options of adding each downloaded item to your Windows Media Player playlist or your iTunes playlist.

I use iPodder (lemon), and it just downloads into whatever folder I want it to. Check your settings.

I've been hunting all night. Far as I can tell best overall option to
auto download podcast to non Ipd device is

windws media plyr 10

Unfortunately must have wndws xp and I have no desire to install
that so my search continues for my iRiver device.

wndows media is supposed to support over 70 devices so let me know
how it sinks up if you try it.
