I finished my first podcast yesterday and added it to the ipodder.org, ipodderx and podcast alley directories using the forms on each of their sites. How long does it typically take for a new podcast to get added after submission of the form?

Each takes it's own amount of time. Usually a couple of days.

I try to publish all new podcasts on the Podcast Alley website within 24 hours of submission. On days when a lot of shows are submitted, sometimes it can take a little longer. I really try to verify all the content and links to make sure everything is accurate. You would be surprised by the numbre of people that try to submit weird files...ZIP, RAM, M3U, etc and dont even konw how to create an RSS/XML file and how important and time saving it is to podcasting.

For ipodder.org it depends on who's in charge of the category. The comedy category, for example, hasn't been updated since 11/8/04. The categories Adam's in charge of take 1-2 weeks, although he's trying to hand more of them off to other people so that they can get updated faster. I think he's trying to automate the process as well. ipodderx is usually fairly quick.

Hi,
We created a directory of sites that you can submit podcasts to:
http://www.podcasting-tools.com/submit-podcasts.htm

Please let me know if I have missed any.
Thank you

I can imagine it's taking longer and longer as the number of podcasters grow exponentially. I know the effort that goes into maintaining a directory of sites (I ran one for bloggers that hit 10,000 entries), so I definitely appreciate your hard work. It's just been four days so I don't know if the queue is backed up or if I screwed up.

You do get an e-mail notification when you're approved, yes? Or should I keep searching?

i have not approved podcasts in a few days, and i appologize. I was busy working on the new release of the site. Hopefully I will get them updated and approved over the weekend.

And right now, no emails are sent when approved, but its on the list :)
