I can see a day when your car stereo will have aggregator functionality and via Wi-Max or some other type of wireless data technology you'll be able to choose from thousands - maybe millions - of micro content stations to listen to that are automatically downloaded to your car stereo 24/7.

Content will get incredibly niche and targeted because the days when millions of listeners are required to have a profitable radio station because of a limited spectrum band will disappear.

One day, you'll have a microstation that broadcasts content for people who live in Columbus Ohio who own Nissan Titans and are little league coaches. You'll no longer have to listen to what everyone else is listening to simply because there are no other choices.

Microstations with just 120 listeners worldwide will now be feasible.

Yes, but do you really believe cars have a future?

I'm still waiting for my dinosaur garbage disposal from the Flintstones.

I'm podcasting from my car. A lot of people are. But I see your vision of the future as being where I'd like to be.

Right now, I'm using my mobile phone to record. Hopefully I'll be able to get a bluetooth cabin setup installed, to take it to the next step.

It really depends, you see all of these futureistic cars with computers in them, voice recognition etc. But how much of this is actually going to ever become mainstream, sure I can understand it with computer systems, and satellite internet in the car, but things like Solar-powered cars, or ethanol aren't catching on too quickly.
If computers are going to become components in cars, I see the course going towards getting computers integrated in cars before a podcast agregator is built for car stereo systems.

Does satellite radio (Sirius, etc.) have "on-demand" capability? Can you subscribe to particular shows and listen to them when you like? If not, why not?

some players will store a couple hours for listening later, but it's not a standard feature

Yeah, I want that thing Jane had in the kitchen where you pushed a few buttons and whatever you wanted for dinner popped up on the table cooked and ready to eat. And Rosie the maid. Not necessarily in that order.

Hey, Asimo is making an appearance...the idea of a "rosie" shouldn't be too far behind.

Though I would keep it away from the clothes dryer...no telling what a robot maid and an oversized heated vibrator would do.

I like the MP3 player that has usb capability. I want that.

Of course Rosie the maid would be cool too.

The king of all media, Howard Stern, says that if you want to rule the game of radio, you must RULE THE CAR. People have MORE time to listen in the car than anywhere else.

I can't wait until we're practically accessible from the car!

I wasn't aware that listening to my iPod through my car stereo was impractical.

More and more cars now are coming with direct iPod ports or line-ins on the factory audio systems. Some even have USB ports for playing MP3 files off of thumb drives. I think that's where things are going: you carry your entertainment around with you, along with the rest of the information that matters to you, and your car's stereo (and for that matter, your home entertainment center) simply becomes an output device.

Hi,
All I'm saying is that you have steps between putting your shows on your ipod, putting it in your car, and attaching it to your car stereo.

If it was ON the car stereo the leaps to hear us would be much more direct. That's what I meant by practical. And also that the easiest and most direct way to access listeners in the car would be to have accessibility to the car's stereo without add ons.

Certainly my choice for car listening is my ipod, but millions of people haven't taken the step of adding mp3 players to their lives. I know people who cannot get past the cd. I know people who can't record anything onto a cassette for that matter.

It's also not possible to stream live in the car. I would love it if people could access streams with LIVE content AND access podcasts.

SFley, we're on the same page as users. I take my ipod everywhere with me.

Yeah. I've got the Griffin version of that. The Road Trip. It sure beats my old iTrip. But FM still blows.

After I get my audio mixer mounted in my car (for redorcing in the car, not listening), I'll run a direct setup to the stereo.
