I have decided to go ahead and publish the new Podcast Alley website because of the vulnerabilities found in the podcast rating system. I was forced to reset the voting counts however, so be sure to vote for your favorite podcasts again.

Thanks to all the folks who helped me uncover the flaws in the previous voting script and for making this site better.

The site is really coming along now. Keep up the good work! Stinks that people need to re-vote though.

Yeah what Kris said too. Our podcast has gone through some changes over the past 10 shows so I do hope people give it another shot if they didn't like it. I know I will be doing the same to other podcasts I've listened to before that I didn't like and give them votes accordingly. I don't think it's right to judge a podcast by one show.

Hey admin, can you make gary's comment a new thread? This is a discussion worth having. Nonetheless, I will post here for now.

There are a lot of us who are takinig podcating pretty seriously and listen to our shows to critique them to try to make them better. It seems like we are all trying to make the perfect show . . .

Not in the sense that is a flawless delivery, encoding or content but a perfect show that we ourselves would want to listen to. Why else do this? There is something to be said for being an early adopter to this medium, but it is the truth that we are in the dust compared to radio. Not many of us come from such high standard production, I sure don't, but don't think I need to either.

Sure my show is produced with musician condenser mics because I prefer clean audio. That is my show right now, for the most part, clean audio that is compressed to usually -.03 to -1.0 db. But when it comes to content,
Gary has said it before and it should be a rule of thumb, content is king and bad production notwithstanding people will listen . . . for now.

Give this thing another few weeks to a couple months and the nwebie's throwing our podcasts on their devices are going to expect a higher production value from us. Especiially when the radio stations and people with bucks to throw around start smelling our asses having too much fun doing this. Maybe not asses, how about smelly pits?

Dudes, where's the blog? Where's the RSS?

I have a blog at http://podcastalley.blogspot.com but I dont use it very often. I may start, makes sense to publish some of this stuff to it instead of here...we will just have to see if i can get it worked out. I found a phpBB mod that pulls rss from the feed and puts it in the forum, so maybe I will do that for the news section.

Any specific reason why you are looking for my blog?

Now, I have almost 1700 feeds on Bloglines. How am I supposed to follow them? Blog and RSS feeds is the answer.

Good point. Podcasts are going to be continuously evolving and changing, so maybe we should have the voting system always only reflect the previous two weeks of voting or so. Live365.com's Internet radio service does exactly that because broadcasters felt their stations were being unfairly represented--especially when listeners and other broadcasters attempted to game the system by low-voting stations and high-voting their own. The two-week system has worked fairly well and discourages users from gaming the system too much.

Actually the voting system on Live365.com for station broadcasts revolve out after a 180 day period. You are correct though, most broadcasters do not agree with the station ratings system and would much rather see it disappear. As far as Internet radio goes, I think the TLH speaks for itself.
