The 6.5 Questions
1. How long have you been podcasting?
I've been podcasting since October of 2005. I currently have two regular shows, Whispered Pearls and MicheBelz Hollywood.
2. How many shows have you done?
Whispered Pearls just had show #135, MicheBelz Hollywood just had #70.
3. How has your quality/performance changed since your first show?
Well, when I first started, I was reliant upon the equipment and studios of others. Since then, I have purchased my own gear. Also, I added music regularly in both shows. I think people enjoy it, and there are so many great artists on the Podsafe Music Network that I love featuring them.
4. What podcasts do you listen to and which are your favorites?
I used to listen to Adam Curry's Daily Source Code, but it appears to have stopped. :-( I also listen to/watch these: (video) Diggnation, Beach Walks with Rox, Kevin Pollak's Chat Show, Ask a Ninja; (audio) Cush: Things I Say, The Hollywood Podcast, KCRW's The Business, Managing the Grey. I also love all the Mevio podcasts, of couse! Especially Soccergirl, The Rumor Girls, Share's Rock and Roll TV and Anji Bee's Chillcast.
5. Tell us about your show and who should be listening to it?
RE: MicheBelz Hollywood
My specialty is awards coverage, so if you want to load up your Oscar/Emmy/Golden Globes pool with the right choices, listen around that time. But I also hope that my show gives a flavor of what's going on in LA. Local bands, fun events in town. Also social media coverage from Second Life to Twitter to Facebook. What's happening with the death of newspapers and how good was the latest Star Trek incarnation. Anyone who has any interest in entertainment and media, and digs great music from the PMN mixed with the flavor of the hottest in LA bands, would like this show.
RE: Whispered Pearls
Whispered Pearls used to be hot and smutty and it's kind of gotten away from that. It's more of a lifestyle show now. So if all the sex scared you off, come on down! We still talk about hot men but more in a People's Sexiest Man Alive way. Life. Love. Interpersonal relations. Why we are on this planet. Sensuality. How to make it through the recession. Following your dreams. Those types of things. The big questions. Mixed with great, sensual music from the PMN.
6. What is your background (especially if relevant to your podcast)?
My background is in newspapers and magazines, as an entertainment journalist, which is why MicheBelz Hollywood is a good show. I've been doing criticism all my life. And well, I've been having hot sex all my life too, which is why Whispered Pearls is good. I blog regularly and write about entertainment all over the web, including a film review page at Rotten Tomatoes, and regular critiques at Gold Derby/The Envelope.
6.5 Is there anything else your listeners should know about you, your show, etc?
The only other thing I'd like to say is that, having started in 2005, I've seen a lot of shows come and go. People who get sick of all the work, or don't see enough profit in it, or whatever. I do my shows because they are my passion. Whether or not I make money at them (though I hope I do someday). I value all of my listeners, and feel like I'm having a dialogue with each of them. I look forward to new listeners. Thanks for the opportunity to do this interview.
