1. How long have you been Podcasting?
Before they signed on to do BG Blast, Pod Save the Queen's, Christina Curry, Emo Girl Talk's Martina Butler and The Nodcasts Schmee have collectively produced over 100 podcasts between their three shows for Podshow.com. Christina's father, former MTV VJ and Podshow co-founder Adam Curry, is a pioneer in the world of podcasting and also has the industry leading show, The Daily Source Code.
2. How many shows have you done?
Collectively we have produced hundreds of shows, and are now up to Episode 4 of BG Blast, with a new one coming out every week for the foreseeable future.
3. How has your quality/performance changed since your first show?
BG Blast is still pretty new to notice any real changes, but like any new show, you're really figuring out in the first couple episodes what works and what doesn't. After that point, it just gets better and better. One thing that is unique about BG Blast is that the majority of the material comes from our community of listeners. The more episodes we produce, the more listener-generated content we get which, in my opinion, only makes for a better show. At the end of the day, our goal is to make shows our listeners help create.
4. What podcasts do you listen to and which are your favorites?
Of course we totally dig the podcasts of our main hosts, Martina Butler's Emo Girl Talk, Schmee's The Nodcast and Christina Curry's Pod Save the Queen.
5. Tell us about your show and who should be listening to it?
BG Blast is an audio podcast for teens sponsored by Busch Gardens. From Indie to Punk to Hip-Hop to Jazz, we showcase all the hottest Podsafe music that our listeners want to hear. We also do fun features on what teens are up to in the community as well as this awesome little segment called Random Thoughts where our listeners call in with their most random ramblings and we play them on the air. Because we are sponsored by Busch Gardens, we do all sorts of fun giveways and hear all the cool new stuff that is going on at the parks. The format is fresh, funky and fun, and we have a blast (pun intended) doing it, and I think that comes through.
6. What is your background (especially if relevant to your podcast)?
Our producers and hosts come from a variety of backgrounds. We have professional radio experience, underground music production, TV production, youth team organizing and, of course, podcasting! The great thing about our hosts is that they already have established shows and audiences of there own, many of who also listen to BG Blast. Schmee, Christina and Martina have really musically driven shows, and are always playing the coolest new tracks as well as old school stuff and they totally bring that flavor to BG Blast.
6.5 Is there anything else your listeners should know about you, your show, etc?
Well, right now BG Blast has a cool promotion going on called Howl-O-Scream where we ask our listeners to call in with their scariest voice, creepiest laugh or most blood curdling scream. Then, the week of Halloween, we are going to pick the best one and that person gets a free trip to Busch Gardens! We are also giving away video iPods and t-shirts to the runner's up. All the info on Howl-O-Scream can be found on our show site at bgblast.podshow.com. Other than that, we try to mix it up each week with new music, stories and giveaways. It’s always a party. |
